NACD Launches New Voter Education and Advocacy Program

With the 2008 elections six weeks away, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) has launched a new on-line voter education and advocacy program. The new Web site, called CHEMICAL (RE)ACTIONS, is a partnership with BIPAC, the Business Industry Political Action Committee, an organization whose mission is to facilitate more business participation in the political process.

The new site features voter registration and absentee ballot information and forms for every state in the union; descriptions of NACD's key issues; information on elected officials, including voting records on business issues and ratings from organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for U.S. Senators and Representatives; a "Find Your Candidates" feature, which includes profiles, contact information, and issue positions for Presidential and Congressional Candidates; election analysis and updates. The site also offers a "Government 101" page with information such as tips on writing to or meeting with elected officials, lists of the Congressional leadership and key committees, and games to test users' political knowledge, with links to information on the original NACD Advocacy page, including the latest on the Washington Fly-In, Regulatory Resources, and NACD Comments and Testimony.

NACD President Christopher L. Jahn said, "We are pleased to offer the CHEMICAL (RE)ACTIONS Web site as a set of tools to make it as easy as possible for owners, operators, and employees of NACD member companies and Affiliates to become involved in the political process and advocacy activities. These individuals are so focused on running their companies, producing and selling their products, and keeping up-to-date on regulatory requirements and the latest industry practices that there is not much time left to become involved in the political process. The purpose of this new initiative is not to tell anyone who to vote for, but to give everyone the tools they need to register to vote and to become informed on the candidates and issues that will impact them, their companies, and the industry.

NACD and its nearly 250 members have established themselves as leaders in health, safety, security, and environmental performance through implementation of the Responsible Distribution Process (RDP), established in 1991 as a condition of membership in NACD. Incorporated as a condition of membership in January 1999, NACD members undergo third-party on-site RDPV - RDP Verification. For additional information, visit NACD's Web site - www.nacd.com.
