Miura Boiler Celebrates Fifth Anniversary of Miura Manufacturing America Factory in Rockmart, Georgia

Miura Executives and Employees, and Officials from Rockmart, Polk County, and the State of Georgia Attended a Gala Event on May 19 Marking Major Success Story for the Local Economy

ATLANTA, GEORGIA – Miura Manufacturing America Co., Ltd. proudly celebrated the fifth anniversary of its state-of-the-art boiler systems manufacturing facility in the Rockmart 101 Industrial Park, in Rockmart, Georgia on May 19 with a special celebration and plant tour attended by government officials, honored guests, Miura executives, and employees.

Miura opened its 100,000-square-foot Rockmart factory in May 2009 in a partnership with the Development Authority of Polk County, the Polk County Commission, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and the City of Rockmart. At the time, Miura estimated its total capital investment in the project at approximately $15 million. Key to Miura Manufacturing America’s success in Rockmart has been the unique skills of the local Polk County labor force in Rockmart and surrounding communities. Working in conjunction with the Georgia Northwestern Technical College and the State of Georgia, Miura invested in retraining workers for the precision welding necessary for the manufacture of Miura steam boilers.

As of May 2009 Miura Manufacturing America’s Rockmart plant has created dozens of jobs for the local economy and has manufactured 500 boilers purchased by a wide range of industries. For 2013 Miura’s total North American Operations sold $29,943,749 in products for a total profit of $1,346,511.

“During these five years, we expanded business to Mexico and Brazil, and managed to become profitable in four years out of a five-year plan,” stated Miura Manufacturing President Mark Utzinger in a speech delivered at the celebration. “We build almost everything at our Rockmart plant, including all chemicals and ancillaries. We can now say we have Miura Pride, Made in the U.S.A.”

“For the future, we will continue to expand,” Utzinger added. “We will provide total steam solutions for our customers – not simply supply a boiler. We will become best partners for our customers to reduce harmful gas emissions and increase their competitive edge. More importantly, however, it is our employees – working as a team – that will catapult us into the future. It is our employees that will continuously improve our products, quality, and customer service. I salute you all.”

Miura Sustainability
Miura’s commitment to sustainability is evidenced not only in the design of its industrial steam boilers, but also in the innovative manufacturing processes used to build them at the Rockmart 101 Industrial Park. Assisting its well-trained and highly motivated Polk County workforce, Miura Manufacturing America uses automated precision-robotic equipment to achieve the highest tolerances needed for the construction of the intricate tubes, fins, and other components of Miura boilers. This precision-manufacturing equipment is unique in the world, and was designed specifically by Miura, providing the company with competitive advantages.

Additional advanced technologies used at Miura Manufacturing America include ultrasound and hydrostatic pressure testing for the inspection of welded longitudinal joints and other key components. Miura innovations created at the Rockmart 101 Industrial Park include the Miura LX-300 zero side-clearance, ultra-low NOx on-demand steam generator, introduced in November 2010. The LX-300 is particularly well suited for larger-scale facilities and district-energy plants seeking superior thermal energy management customized for their specific demand profile.

Miura’s “Green” commitment is further evidenced in Miura Manufacturing America’s design as a sole-source facility. All stages of manufacturing are performed at Miura’s Rockmart factory, so energy and emissions needed to outsource components are eliminated, reducing the embodied energy in each boiler. This self-sufficiency also speeds Miura’s ability to respond to market needs.

Unique Technology
Miura’s “once-through” design uses less water – and less fuel – than conventional boilers, and can produce steam in five minutes or less. Miura boilers produce BHP outputs comparable to much larger units while also saving, on average, about 20 percent in fuel costs. The U.S. Department of Energy has set that amount as a goal for this decade through its Better Buildings, Better Plants program.

Miura boilers also produce fewer emissions such as carbon dioxide (CO2), a major “greenhouse gas” linked to global warming, and nitrogen oxide (NOx), a regulated pollutant and contributor to smog and acid rain.

Miura’s LX Series gas-fired steam and hot-water boilers also meet or exceed current and proposed regulations for nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Current ratings for these boilers are as low as 9 parts per million for NOx, and Miura is working on improving that figure even further.

Miura’s modular boilers can be turned on and off as needed in a multiple installation to meet peak heating demands, yet also operate efficiently during part-load conditions. As noted in a 2006 Federal Energy Management Program commercial boiler document: “Modular systems are more efficient because they allow each boiler to operate at or close to full-rated load most of the time, with reduced standby losses.”

Miura boilers also feature advanced microprocessor controls that maximize operational efficiency. Additional efficiencies of up to 87 percent are obtained by Miura’s built-in energy recovery and proprietary water-treatment systems. Miura Manufacturing America includes a water-analysis lab, where Miura customers can have their local water tested.
