Durable construction coupled with Impinj Monza® 4 tag chip for improved vehicle ID, access control

Dresden, Germany & Mason City, Iowa - KSW Microtec AG, one of the world's leading suppliers of RFID components and inlays for secure cards and eDocuments, and Metalcraft today announced availability of Metalcraft's RFID Windshield Tag delivering extended read range, memory and privacy for vehicle applications. The upgraded performance comes from a new KSW Microtec WindSpeed® RFID inlay featuring the Impinj Monza® 4 RFID tag chip family.

Metalcraft's RFID Windshield Tag is engineered to deliver long read range at lower cost for customers automating vehicle tracking and access control.

The standard RFID Windshield Tag is a 4-inch by 1-inch label that can be placed on the interior of automobile windshield and is printed on both sides - one side with variable copy like a bar code and the other with consistent content like a logo or disclaimer. The passive RFID label provides a read range over 30 feet and supports 496 bits of EPC memory and 512 bits of user memory.

"The new WindSpeed® inlays are engineered to offer the best, consistent read range on glass used for vehicles," said KSW Microtec CEO Thomas Hitzer. "KSW's WindSpeed® products, coupled with Metalcraft's durable construction, deliver excellent performance in a small label that can withstand the harsh environment of windshield applications."

Metalcraft's construction encapsulates the inlay between thin layers of polyester adding a bar code and human readable information to one side and a windshield-compatible adhesive to the other. This encapsulation process protects the inlay and reduces the effects of electrostatic discharge (ESD) while the windshield-compatible adhesive protects against the harmful UV rays. It does not require a foam standoff like other windshield tag designs.

"KSW's inlays have been at the core of Metalcraft's RFID Windshield Tag from the beginning of product development," said Metalcraft president Steve Doerfler. "Metalcraft is committed to making the most durable, high-value RFID products for access control and asset tracking."

Orders are shipped within 15 days of proof approval. Prices vary by quantity; contact a Metalcraft RFID Specialist at 800-437-5283 for more information.
