Linear Drive Travel Length Adjusts Automatically On-the-Fly - Without Electronic Controls or Programming

Aston, PA, February 2007 - A reciprocating linear motion assembly from Amacoil/Uhing enables automatic increase or decrease of the travel distance on-the-fly without requiring programming or electronic controls. Actuated as the drive moves, a mechanical mechanism on the assembly "ratchets" the end stops farther apart or closer together in specific increments which are set using a dial. As the end stops move, the stroke length changes accordingly.

The assembly is for production/plant managers or machine designers with a requirement to gradually increase or decrease the drive travel distance without investing in complex, costly controls and without stopping the system. Example applications include applying adhesives/coatings, spraying, wash downs and winding onto spools with tapered flanges. An affordable, unidirectional motor (not included) may be used to drive the system because the stroke length is controlled independently of the drive motor's speed and rotational direction.

Uhing linear motion assemblies are available in various sizes and provide axial thrust from 7 lbs. to 800 lbs. Depending on size, linear speed may be up to 13 ft/sec. Backlash-free Uhing drives feature mechanically controlled and adjusted linear speed and travel direction - without changing gears or reversing the motor. This simplifies design and set up, and helps minimize operating and maintenance costs.
