Lamp Indices Decline during Second Quarter



ROSSLYN, Va., August 5, 2008- NEMA's incandescent and compact fluorescent lamp shipment indices for the second quarter 2008 declined 5.5 and 1.0 percent, respectively, compared to the previous quarter. On a year-over-year basis the incandescent index showed a decline of 17.5 percent while CFL shipments declined 18.7 percent from a record index level of 297.4. Although both indices trended downward, the market share of CFLs rebounded to 24.7 percent nearly equaling the all time high of 24.8 percent reached a year earlier.

The NEMA Lamp Shipments Indices are composite measures of NEMA-member companies' U.S. shipments of compact fluorescent and incandescent lamps. Product shipments data are drawn from NEMA statistical surveys and are adjusted for seasonal fluctuations.
