UCrate®, UChannel® offer new protection choices for windows, doors and long, narrow objects

APPLETON, Wis., Aug. 28, 2008 - Laminations®, part of Great Northern Corporation's Specialty Group, will showcase two new innovative U-shaped VBoard® products - UCrate® and UChannel® - at Booth E8708 of Pack Expo International 2008 in Chicago.

UCrate® offers a versatile, cost-effective choice for protecting long and narrow products during shipping and handling. UChannel® is ideal for protecting the edges of all types and shapes of windows and doors, including garage doors, during transport and storage.

Both products are manufactured from laminated paperboard utilizing new custom-designed machinery that allows leg angles to meet and sustain tight specifications, thereby minimizing angle variance during product runs while ensuring fast turnaround. The machinery accommodates paper roll widths of up to 18 inches, making possible a wide range of leg heights and base widths for both products and, in the case of UChannel, the ability to create asymmetrical leg heights for unusual applications.

UCrate consists of seamless U-shaped channels that fit snugly together to create a sturdy, environmentally friendly way to ship products such as window blinds and rods, tubing, metal rods/extrusions, fragile instruments and glass products.

Advantages offered by UCrate over traditional package protection include: o lighter than wood, no bug stamping export issues, no slivers o better impact resistance and scuff protection than corrugated o easy and quick top loading of product o substantial beam strength without sacrificing shock absorption capabilities

As a result, UCrate delivers savings in labor, freight and space over other alternatives. End-cap choices include wood, two-fold corrugated and four-fold corrugated.

UChannel is manufactured with single-piece seamless construction that can be formed to provide a wide variety and range of base widths and leg heights. The seamless one-piece construction means no rivets that can scratch product and no bottom overlap. Both UChannel and UCrate are available in calipers of 0.080 to 0.600 inches and standard lengths up to 300 inches. Special-order lengths and a wide range of high-quality printing options also are available.

Free samples of both UChannel and UCrate and more information can be requested at www.laminationsonline.com.

In addition to UChannel and UCrate, the new machinery also can produce VBoard with larger leg lengths than standard VBoard and flat laminated pieces that can be used as spacers to separate glass sheets or other stacked flat products.

"Like all Laminations VBoard® products, UChannel and UCrate are backed by Laminations' reputation for innovation and superior customer service," said Bill Faster, Vice President, Sales. "Our packaging engineers and sales representatives work closely with customers to identify their needs and create customized, cost-effective solutions."

The Laminations booth at Pack Expo also will feature standard VBoard and the full line of Laminations products including QuikStik®, FlexRoll®, PF PalletTop®, and specially coated VBoard products such as HydroShield®.
