Press release date: November 10, 2008

Greenville, South Carolina (November 10, 2008) - KEMET, The Capacitance Company, announced that, for the second straight year, KEMET received the "Best Paper Award" at CARTS-Europe 2008. The conference was held in Helsinki, Finland, from October 20, through October 23, 2008. CARTS which is short for Capacitor and Resistor Technology Symposium is an annual passive components technical and marketing conference held in the US, Europe and Asia.

Each year the attendees vote for the best paper and the award is presented to the winners the following year. The 2007 "Best Paper Award" was awarded to KEMET for the paper "Improved Ripple Current Capabilities with Facedown Terminations" by John Prymak, Peter Blais, Bill Long, and Paul Staubli all of KEMET. The paper focuses on the technical advantages of this advanced form factor ("Face Down") to meet the challenging requirements of higher power circuits that are found in today's leading electronic devices.

"For KEMET to win the 'Best Paper Award' for the last two consecutive years is a remarkable accomplishment," stated Dr. Philip Lessner, KEMET's Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer. "Over the last few years, KEMET has moved away from "fast-follower" status in pursuit of becoming a leader in capacitance solutions. These awards and achievements validate the advances we are making towards that goal. I congratulate all of the KEMET scientists and engineers who made their mark at CARTS-Europe 2008."

In addition to the paper cited above, KEMET presented another six technical papers and one tutorial. The presentations were as follows:

"Electrical Characterization of Polymer Tantalum Capacitors with Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxthiphene) Cathode" Yuri Freeman, W.R. Harrell, I. Luzinov, and B. Holman (KEMET and Clemson Univ.)

"High Voltage Tantalum Polymer Capacitors" J. Young, J. Qiu, and R. Hahn (KEMET)

"The Development of Electrolytes in Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors for Automotive and High Temperature Applications" Z. Dou, R. Xu, A. Berduque (BHC Components LTD (KEMET), UK)

"Film Capacitors for Automotive and Industrial Applications" D. Montanari, A. Sanua, M. Tsingos (Arcotronics, Italy - KEMET), K. Saarinen, M. Niskala, C. Nender (Evox-Rifa, Finland - KEMET) D. Zeidler (Arcotronics, Germany - KEMET)),

Tutorial: "Choosing the Right Capacitor for the Application" J. Prymak (KEMET)

"Why 47 uF Capacitor Drops to 37 uF, 30 uF, and Lower" J. Prymak (KEMET)

"The Influence of Electrowetting and Surfactants on MnO2 Coverage and in Electrical Properties of Ta Capacitors with High CV Powders" A. Pimental (KEMET)
