Injection mold repairs can be expensive and this makes it very important for the companies that buy injection molds to do some regular maintenance in order to protect their investment. Many companies usually ignore mold maintenance and they wait up to when the injection mold breaks down and there is a serious problem. This is the time that they call the technicians and could end up to be a very costly solution. The life of the injection mold can be extended through preventive mold maintenance and reduce costs of very expensive mold repairs.

Molds that are maintained regularly do not break down easily. The quality of the plastic component is affected by the condition of the injection mold producing the part that is why mold maintenance is very important. After molds have undergone a number of cycles the manufacturers should perform inspections, maintenance and also perform some cleaning. Since different molds do age at a different rate, the schedule for the maintenance should be set carefully. The environment on where the mold is used is one of the things that should be taken into account i.e. the moisture, extreme temperature and pressure. The kind of product the mold is producing and materials being injection molded are other considerations when creating the mold maintenance schedule.

Rust constantly wants to erode steel and injection molds are not immune especially when working 24/7 under heat, pressure, water and of course exposure to oxygen, rust takes no time to eat away at a mold. A regular scheduled cleaning of the injection mold to remove rust is needed to avoid the mold breaking down or producing out of spec components.

One of the more common injection mold problems are water leaks. Water leaks occur around the static seals or where dissimilar metals contact. To often companies will wait and band aid the water leaks until it stops producing quality parts or breakdowns and unfortunately these repairs will end up more costly in the long run with unscheduled production downtime and increased damage to the mold.

At Crescent Industries, we want your injection mold to run for as long as possible producing quality plastic components, so we provide documented mold maintenance program for our customer's injection molds.
