Portrays SIP Client as 'Heart of IMS'; Basis for JDSU's IMS Test Speaking Role at Fall VON 2007
MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 24 / -- Based on well-established IP and network infrastructure expertise, members of JDSU's chief technology office, in collaboration with the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab, today launched a new white paper called "IMS Simplified: The Evolution of the SIP Client." Lead authors are 22-year IP-industry veteran Jay Stewart, JDSU's director of IMS strategy; Barry Constantine, principal engineer for JDSU; and Lincoln Lavoie, senior engineer, University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab.

The white paper provides a detailed look at the session initiation protocol (SIP) and the role it plays in delivering reliable service over the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) architecture. It offers an in-depth analysis of the interplay between SIP and IMS to help readers realize the potential of IMS as the most significant platform for next generation networks.
"IMS is at the heart of an immense debate influencing the future of next generation network service platforms -- it seemed natural to publish a paper that gets to the heart of IMS itself, the SIP client, and help clarify the role, impact and significance of these two critical client applications," said Jay Stewart. Published jointly by JDSU and the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab, chapters of "IMS Simplified: The Evolution of the SIP Client" focus on:

R5/R6, IETF, CableLabs, ETSI, TISPAN, ATIS, SIPPINGS, OMA
o Fundamentals of SIP: Elements and session flow, message format
o IMS Basics: IMS network groundwork, examples of IMS call flows
o SIP Clients for IMS: SIP extensions, security, signaling compression,
ENUM, NAT traversal, IPv6 support
Co-authors Jay Stewart and Lincoln Lavoie are taking part in Fall VON's 2007 IMS panel, "Putting IMS Interoperability to the Test," on Thursday, November 1, 2007, 9:00am - 10:15am. JDSU will be exhibiting at booth #454. Stewart also represented JDSU at an industry speaking session last month entitled "Testing IMS Network Capability," part of the IMS Executive Summit in Washington D.C.
