(Boise, Idaho)-The Idaho Transportation Board announced today that Brian W. Ness has been selected as director of the Idaho Department of Transportation. Ness, who holds a bachelor's of science degree and a master's degree in public administration, was chosen from a group of 12 finalists, assembled during a nationwide search.

Idaho Transportation Board Chairman Darrell V. Manning said, "Ness possesses the professional background, leadership skills, and energy to make an immediate impact on transportation in Idaho and we know that his degree in public administration coupled with his transportation background will serve him well in effectively leading the transportation department."

Ness, a 30-year veteran of the Michigan DOT, said, "I am looking forward to the challenges that await me in serving the citizens of Idaho. Between now and January, I will be developing relationships with the ITD team, the Governor's staff, and the Legislature as we move the department to the next level."

As Michigan DOT Administrator, Ness was responsible for helping the department meet its strategic planning and quality improvement goals.

"The state of Idaho could not have selected a more deserving and capable leader," said John Horsley, executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). "Everyone at AASHTO is looking forward to working with Brian, as he joins both the Idaho DOT and our board of directors."

Ness will begin his new job on January 11, 2010. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is the "Voice of Transportation" representing State Departments of Transportation in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. AASHTO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association serving as a catalyst for excellence in transportation.
