Excellent production system and strong commitment

Espelkamp, 01.04.2011 - The Electronics business area of the HARTING Technology Group was one of the winners of the toughest benchmark competition for the production industry in Germany. The company, based in Espelkamp, came out on top in the "Outstanding Mass Production" category, and was awarded the title "Factory of the Year / GEO 2010". "Despite high levels of pressure in terms of competition and prices, HARTING has successfully weathered the economic crisis and improved its operating income significantly over recent years", said the panel of judges when giving the reasons for their decision.

The Congress on Competition, organized by business consultants A.T. Kearney and the journal Production every year, took place in Esslingen last week under the motto "Coming out of the crisis with the best". The title of "Factory of the Year" was officially awarded on this occasion, and the victorious companies presented themselves with talks and exhibition stands. Economics Minister for Baden Württemberg, Ernst Pfister, presented the prize to Torsten Ratzmann, HARTING Technology Group Senior Vice President Production and Logistics and his project team. "This award is for a team performance", he stressed, and called all the colleagues who had traveled with him to the award ceremony up onto the stage. The team spirit and strong commitment of employees and managers were also part of the reason why the panel of judges selected HARTING as a prize winner. They also cited the high level of standardization and improvements made in the area of set-up procedures. Overall, they found the entire HARTING learning & improvement system - HARlis for short - outstanding. HARlis is the HARTING corporate code of practice aimed at delivering excellence for processes and procedures. The panel of judges praised the "high pace of innovations" in the introduction of new products and the "very rapid throughput times in production and order processing". They were also impressed by the high standard and cleanliness of the production halls. In spite of the fact that the structure of the buildings is old in places - HARTING has been expanding for over 60 years at the Espelkamp site - production is at a very high level.
