Press release date: November 22, 2013

ROSSLYN, Va. — Federal Energy Resource Commission (FERC) Chairman Jon Wellinghoff will step down from his position November 24. He was appointed as a commissioner to FERC in 2006 and held the chairmanship since 2009.

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has worked closely with Chairman Wellinghoff on initiatives focused around Smart Grid, energy storage, and energy efficiency. NEMA awarded Chairman Wellinghoff its 2012 Bernard H. Falk Award because of his achievements—opening wholesale electric markets to renewable resources and providing a platform for participation of demand response, energy storage, and energy efficiency. The Falk Award is given each year in recognition of outstanding achievement in technology, management, marketing, international trade, education, public affairs, or any other field important to the electroindustry.

“I sincerely appreciate Chairman Wellinghoff’s leadership and all of the work FERC has accomplished during his tenure. The Energy Independence and Security Act has been a major force driving change in our industry and the commission has been open to incorporating industry as a partner in accommodating that change,” said NEMA President and CEO Evan R. Gaddis. “We wish him our best and look forward to working with his successor.”

NEMA is the association of electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Rosslyn, Virginia. Its 400-plus member companies manufacture a diverse set of products including power transmission and distribution equipment, lighting systems, factory automation and control systems, and medical diagnostic imaging systems. Total U.S. shipments for electroindustry products exceed $100 billion annually.
