Press release date: May 15, 2014

St. Paul, Minn. – On Tuesday May 6, 2014 at approximately 9 p.m. MDT, Ergodyne-sponsored explorers Eric Larsen and Ryan Waters reached the geographic North Pole, completing their unsupported and unaided "Last North" expedition in just 53 days. They were the only team attempting a crossing to reach the North Pole this season - and the only team since 2010 to accomplish this feat. They also are the second American team in history to complete the crossing, following John Huston and Tyler Fish's 55-day journey in 2009.

Larsen, an accomplished polar adventurer who in 2010 was the first person in history to successfully complete expeditions to the South Pole, North Pole and the summit of Mount Everest in a continuous 365-day period, described it as "one of the most difficult expeditions" he has undertaken. Larsen and Waters travelled across a 480-mile stretch of shifting sea ice using skis, snowshoes, and at times, swimming through open water sections.

St. Paul safety manufacturer, Ergodyne, provided gear for Larsen's past adventures as well as his recent "Last North" expedition to protect him from the extreme temperatures of the poles and ultimately keep him productive to achieve his ambitious goals. Items like the CORE Performance Work Wear® 6480 Bottoms, 6435 Long Sleeve, 6485 Multi-Band, TREX™ 6386 High Performance Insoles, ProFlex® 813 Fleece Utility Gloves, Arsenal® 5030 Water Resistant Large Duffel Bag, and N-Ferno® 6819 Knit Cap made the torturous journey with him. In addition to this gear, Ergodyne and Larsen teamed up in 2012 creating a custom version of the popular ProFlex® 819OD Glove. Featuring OutDry® waterproofing technology, 100g 3m™ Thinsulate™ and dual layer digital leather palms, these extreme environment gloves stayed durable, flexible, and waterproof in the worst of conditions.

"I've been using Ergodyne gear on my training trips and expeditions for the past 3 years and am always impressed with their durability and performance as well as Ergodyne's desire to deliver truly topnotch safety gear," said Eric Larsen. "My custom-made ProFlex® 819OD gloves were a great addition to my polar gear. If Ergodyne's stuff can keep me warm in -34 °C weather, they can certainly keep workers warm across the globe."
