Reliable Domestic Energy Will Create Jobs and Enhance Competitiveness
Washington, D.C., - National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse issued this statement today supporting the Congressional Replacement of President Obama's Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling Plan Act (H.R. 6082):
"Increasing access to domestic sources of reliable energy is essential to the long-term health of manufacturing in the United States. Studies show that increased oil and gas exploration could add 1.1 million jobs by 2020 and 4 million barrels of oil and natural gas per day.
As users of one-third of our nation's energy, manufacturers are looking to Congress for policies that allow for the development of our nation's vast energy sources. The Department of Interior's plan will ban more than 85 percent of federal offshore acreage, preventing energy producers from accessing this much-needed supply, and the plan must be replaced.
We're continuing to see evidence that manufacturing growth is slowing. We need Congress to act on common-sense policies, such as this bill, to create jobs and lower energy prices if manufacturers are to continue to power our recovery."
