Press release date: September 26, 2011

LONG BEACH, Calif. - DENSO announced that its VS-068 high-speed, compact, six-axis articulated robot has received the International Forum (iF) Design Award. The VS-068 has the second-longest reach of DENSO's new VS-Series robots, which offer the world's fastest speed and slimmest arms in their class.

The International Forum Design Award has been held in Germany since 1953 and receives entries from over 40 countries worldwide. The award, which evaluates a total of eleven different criteria, including technological and engineering sophistication and advancement, is considered one of the world's most prestigious prizes for industrial design.

"Our new VS-Series robots are the culmination of nearly 50 years of industry-leading robot design and manufacturing here at DENSO," said Peter Cavallo, robotics sales manager, DENSO Sales California. "Receiving this highly respected award and the recognition it confers on our efforts is extremely gratifying."

The new VS-Series robots feature cycle times from 0.37 to 0.33 sec. and repeatability from ±0.03 to ±0.02 mm. Reaches are from 500 to 900 mm and payload capacities from 4 to 7 kg.

The VS robots are also extremely flexible, with an even more compact design than previous models, including ultraslim arms to facilitate integration and a new optional bottom-side cable connection that saves valuable floor space. The robots can be mounted on the floor, ceiling or wall with no special hardware needed.

A new, world's first all-internal wiring option allows users to connect Gigabit Ethernet devices and servo grippers directly to the robot flange, eliminating the possibility of external cables becoming tangled or interfering with peripheral equipment.

In addition to standard IP40 protection level, a new IP67 dust- and splashproof protection option resists cutting chips and high-pressure washing, extending the robots' application range. ANSI and CE safety compliance allows global deployment.

Typical applications include assembly, dispensing, inspection, machining, machine tending, material handling, material removal, packaging, pick and place, surface finishing and test handling.

More information about the new VS-Series robots is available on the DENSO Robotics website at http://densorobotics.com/products-vs-6axis-new.php.
