Erlanger, KY) - Crowcon's Tetra portable gas detectors now have CSA approval, allowing them to be used throughout Canada for hazardous area applications. Designed for simple use in demanding conditions, the Tetra has simple, single button operation which can be used with a gloved hand. Monitoring oxygen, toxic and flammable gases, the unit has a top mounted, backlit display showing all gas readings, diagnostics and battery life.
Despite its compact size and low weight of around 500g (17.5oz), the Tetra is very rugged. Its shatterproof plastic housing is over-molded with rubber and incorporates a flexible internal architecture to resist shock and vibration. The unit is water and dust resistant to IP65 and will float if dropped in water.
If a gas hazard is detected, the Tetra gives instant and effective warning with a powerful 90 dBA audible alarm and an extremely bright red/blue LED visual warning. Alarm tones are adjustable to ensure easy discrimination from noisy machinery. An integral vibrating alarm is also a standard feature.
The device also has a dual function 'Peak' facility, offering both a 'Peak Recall' mode, which shows the previously recorded largest deviation from the 'fresh air' condition, and a live 'Peak Display' function, which shows the largest deviations encountered during a live test of an atmosphere.
A lithium-ion battery provides over 18 hours continuous operation from a single charge, and there is a 30 day countdown warning of the calibration due date. For testing confined spaces prior to entry, the Tetra can be specified with an optional built-in electric sampling pump or used with a separate manual aspirator.
