Bruce H. Schechinger, President, BHS Marketing LLC, Salt Lake City, UT, was named the 2009 Distributor of the Year by the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD). Schechinger's 15 plus years of service to the Association in many different leadership roles have been an outstanding example of his steadfast commitment to the chemical distribution industry.
The award, given annually for service to the chemical distribution industry and fellow NACD members, was presented to Schechinger in honor of many years of volunteer service to NACD as well as his instrumental role in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the NACD early this summer. Schechinger began serving on NACD committees in 1995 as an officer in the Southeast Region where he rose to the position of President. He also served on many business-oriented committees including the Supplier Relations Committee, the Financial Information Task Group, and the Member Services Committee.
Schechinger has the distinction of being the only member to have been the President of two different NACD Regions, Southeast and Western. He has also been the leading driver behind NACD's efforts to recruit new members and enhance the membership benefits provided to all member companies. In 2005, he started moving through the NACD officer positions on the Executive Committee, beginning as Treasurer. He also served as Treasurer for the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF) during this period as well. He has also served as a CEF Trustee.
Schechinger received the award during a General Session of NACD's Annual Meeting, where he was commended for his unwavering commitment to the mission and goals of the Association and consistently promoting the benefits of NACD and its Responsible Distribution ProcessSM. Schechinger was recognized for his strong and positive leadership, credited for improving the relationship with the American Chemistry Council and for always putting the Association first.
The award was presented by the 2008 Distributor of the Year recipient Peter Y. Hess, President of the John R. Hess & Co., Inc., Cranston, RI, at NACD's 38th Annual Meeting in Marco Island, FL.
