Switzerland

Press release date: October 7, 2010

Eight-page, full-color, illustrated brochure from ABB describes the company's new line of single and dual-loop universal process controllers and indicators. Called ControlMaster, this new generation of process control instruments is said to be more intuitive, easier to operate, and significantly more powerful in use.

The brochure notes that each instrument provides a comprehensive display of process status, using crystal clear, full color, thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal technology. Also, a simple user interface delivers clear text prompts that make installation, commissioning, and operation quick and easy.

According to the brochure, these controllers are fully scalable from the most basic applications through to complex, difficult to control processes. Included in the controllers' functionality are cascade, feedforward and ratio control, plus advanced predictive, adaptive and dual-loop capabilities. Other examples of capabilities are math, totalization and frequency inputs, logic, gain scheduling, split output, valve control, real-time alarms, and comprehensive diagnostics.

Enclosures offer IP66 and NEMA 4X environmental protection. Model formats include the 1/8th DIN CM10 controller, the 1/8th DIN CM15 indicator, the ¼ DIN CM30 controller, and the CM50 3x6 format controller.

The brochure says that the controllers' communications capabilities provide high levels of connectivity. For example, remote process monitoring is made easy via the integrated web server. Modbus and Profibus communications are also available.

Concluding sections of the brochure offer several application scenarios and diagrams. Included are:
o temperature control of a steam heated product
o temperature control of electrically or gas-heated furnaces
o pH control of effluent flow via acid or alkaline dosing
o ratio control of product blending
o boiler drum level control, and
o dual loop control of temperature and humidity in a climatic chamber.

A table simplifies product selection based on various desired specifications.
