Bottomline Technologies Named to Software Magazine's Annual 'Software 500' for 2007

Leader in Payments and Invoice Automation Solutions Ranks Among the World's Largest Software Companies for Fifth Consecutive Year

PORTSMOUTH, NH - December 18, 2007 - Bottomline Technologies (NASDAQ: EPAY), a leading provider of collaborative payment and invoice automation solutions, today announced that it has been named for the fifth consecutive year to Software Magazine's annual Software 500 list.

Software 500 is a revenue-based ranking of the world's largest software and services organizations, based on total annual software, services and maintenance revenue. Bottomline moved up on this year's list to number 200 with revenues increasing 16% to $118.3 million for the company's 2007 fiscal year ended June 30, 2007.

"Bottomline's increasing rank demonstrates strong growth in the software and services industry with regard to financial applications in particular, which was one of the top four business sectors showing the most revenue momentum on our list between 2006 and 2007," said John Desmond, Editor of Software Magazine. "In the face of globalization, ongoing regulatory concerns and the transition from paper to electronic financial processes, we anticipate that demand for electronic payments and invoice processing among corporations, banks and other financial institutions will remain strong for years to come."

Today Bottomline's solutions for global payments, electronic invoice processing, cash management and financial document automation are used by more than 9,000 customers worldwide, including 65 of the Fortune 100, 15 of the top 25 global banks, a growing number of the nation's top property and casualty insurers, and other leading financial services firms.

"We're very pleased to be recognized by Software Magazine again this year," said Rob Eberle, President and CEO of Bottomline Technologies. "This ranking, on a broader basis, reflects the business value that our customers derive from Bottomline's software and services."
