BIO Human Resources Conference Announces Co-Location with 2009 BIO International Convention

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Monday, October 27, 2008) - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) today announced the co-location of the BIO Human Resources Conference 2009 with the BIO International Convention, the global event for biotechnology, in Atlanta. The HR conference will take place Sunday - Tuesday, May 17-19, 2009 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.
"With the continued growth of the biotech industry, issues such as educating a new generation of the biotech workforce through universities and community colleges and reaching out to minority and underserved communities will become increasingly vital to shaping the industry's development," said James Greenwood, president and CEO of BIO.
The BIO Human Resources Conference program will include two full days of sessions addressing the unique HR needs and business challenges in the biotech industry. In addition to numerous opportunities for professional networking, the program will include the customary State of the Biotech Industry Address and plenary breakfast, and a keynote luncheon.
"Co-locating with the BIO International Convention will give our attendees an opportunity to learn the latest in the HR field of biotech and also network with the 20,000 industry professionals expected to attend the BIO International Convention," said Ellen Fernandes, managing director, Human Resources at BIO.
Attendees of the BIO Human Resources Conference will also have the opportunity to attend the BIO International Convention Welcome Reception, the BIO Career Fair - open Sunday, May 17 - Monday, May 18, as well as the BIO International Convention Exhibition. BIO HR attendees will have the option to extend their HR registration to Wednesday and Thursday for two full days of international convention access which includes the Growing the Biotech Workforce breakout session track.

The 2009 BIO International Convention is expected to draw 20,000 industry leaders from around the world. The Convention program will feature more than 150 sessions in 21 breakout session tracks highlighting the latest information and the newest opportunities for executives, investors, scientists, policy leaders, and media from around the world. More than 1,000 speakers will share breakthroughs in medicine, diagnostics, the environment, energy production, food and agriculture and more.

In 2008, the convention attracted more than 20,000 attendees and exhibitors with approximately one-third from countries outside the U.S. The San Diego event also hosted numerous domestic and international public officials including 10 US governors.
Growth of the convention and BIO overall, has paralleled that of the dynamic industry that BIO represents. BIO currently projects 20,000 attendees for the 2009 BIO International Convention in Atlanta.
