Press release date: February 25, 2008

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 25, 2007 - Axiom Analytical Inc., a leading supplier of sampling equipment, software, and integrated systems for all forms of vibrational spectroscopy, today announced the availability of its FNL-120Ne ATR spectroscopic flow cells designed specifically to mate to the standard NeSSI (ANSI/ISA SP76.00.02-2002) platform.

NeSSI (New Sampling/Sensor Initiative) is an industry initiative undertaken to standardize and simplify the design of systems used in chemical process analysis. A significant part of this initiative has been the development of modular, miniature, and automated sample system technology using a platform based on the ANSI/ISA SP76.00.02-2002 standard. This platform defines a standard mounting and interfacing geometry for a new generation of surface mount analytical components. Among the benefits of the NeSSI platform are modular assembly and replacement, short sample lines, fast response, compact design, low sample volume, and a high level of automation.

Until recently, the emphasis in the development of NeSSI compatible hardware has been on devices for sample conditioning and control and on scalar sensors for such variables as temperature, pressure and flow rate. Axiom Analytical recently extended these developments to encompass multi-dimensional sensor systems employing near-IR and UV-visible spectroscopy with the introduction of its FFV-320Ne Transmission Cells. The introduction of its FNL-120Ne has now further extended NeSSI technology to encompass UV-Visible ATR spectroscopy. ATR (attenuated total reflectance) is a sample interfacing technique which makes it possible to analyze substances which are far too strongly absorbing for analysis by conventional transmission spectroscopy. Although most widely used in the mid-infrared spectral region, ATR is also used in the UV-visible region of the spectrum to analyze dyes, aromatics, and other chromophores - i.e. substances chemical with extremely strong UV-visible absorptions. The new ATR cell mates to a standard 1.5 inch square NeSSI substrate. It is designed to be interfaced to a remote UV-Visible spectrometer by means of fiber-optic cables.

Pittcon 2008

The FNL-120Ne ATR spectroscopic flow cells will be exhibited at Axiom's booth (#4323) at the upcoming Pittcon Conference, in New Orleans.
