MONTREAL, Canada, October 18/PRNewswire/ -- Atrion International today announced the launch of www.reachlegislation.com, an information web-portal covering REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) related topics, including in-depth industry viewpoints on this new European Chemical framework for regulating the manufacture, import, marketing and use of chemicals.

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals) is a new European regulatory framework for classifying and labeling chemicals. Adopted in 2003, the framework is expected to come into effect by mid-2007. Under REACH, companies will be obligated to register their chemical inventory in a centralized, public database before placing chemical-based products on the European market. Manufacturers, importers and downstream users will also be required to demonstrate that the manufacture, import, and use of a substance does not adversely affect human health and that any risks are adequately controlled. Information on chemical properties and safe uses of chemicals will then be communicated up and down the supply chain.
