Associated Wholesale Grocers Selects RedPrairie's Integrated Solutions for the Grocery Industry

RedPrairie's Grocery-Focused Solutions Will Enable AWG to Achieve Competitive Advantage through Improved Supply Chain Efficiencies, Visibility and Control

Waukesha, Wis. - Grocers are under intense pressure due to increased regulation and intensified competition from mega-retailers. As such, many companies like Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) are turning to RedPrairie Corporation for its 30-plus years of experience in the grocery industry, as well as its best of breed supply chain solutions with enhanced functionality to support the grocery business. AWG has selected RedPrairie's suite of supply chain solutions to optimize its operations across its extensive supply chain distribution network, enabling the company to pass on increased efficiencies and savings to its retail customers.

AWG's seven distribution centers deliver to 2,246 retail outlets, including non member customers of Valu Merchandisers Company. However, the company's current legacy systems and highly customized third party supply chain solutions offer little flexibility for business growth, and lack end-to-end visibility and access to real-time information.

In an effort to improve processes for competitive advantage and to better serve customers through improved business intelligence, AWG will deploy RedPrairie's DLx® Warehouse, DLx® Transportation, DLx® Labor, and various enterprise solutions, such as event management, scorecard, visibility, slotting, time and attendance, modeling, and QA control, across its distribution network.

"Our team initially started out looking at a pure WMS solution," says, Rich Vastine, corporate director of industrial engineering at AWG. "However, it became evident to us that a 'cradle to grave' integrated solution set would best serve our customers. After a thorough analysis of the technology offerings in the market, we concluded that RedPrairie will provide us the functionality and support we need today and for the future."

John Lane, vice president of distribution at AWG's Tennessee division, adds, "RedPrairie has an excellent team of people. During the decision making process they didn't pressure us; instead, they did a super job of presenting their business solutions in a professional manner and providing support as needed. RedPrairie and AWG's cultures are also very well in synch. There is a good connection, synergy and spirit of partnership between us."

Says Vastine, "AWG is extremely excited to move forward with RedPrairie. We are very impressed with RedPrairie's diligence and efforts; their message has been consistent and they have demonstrated that they are a partner in this process versus a vendor."

Comments RedPrairie Company Leader John Jazwiec, "In a business where companies must strive to save pennies on the dollar to remain competitive, RedPrairie's supply chain solutions offer grocers a simple and rapid way to reduce costs and improve customer service. We offer unparalleled experience and depth of functionality in the areas that matter most to grocers - brand protection, QA recall and workforce performance management."

RedPrairie's comprehensive, integrated solutions suite includes: warehouse management; transportation management; workforce performance management; event management; slotting; visibility; performance measurement; and RFID for EPC / ISO compliance and mobile resource management.
