Press release date: February 5, 2013

MADRID, SPAIN / CANONSBURG, PA, USA – aqualia Industrial, the aqualia division for industrial water treatment, and Aquatech, a global leader in water & wastewater purification technologies for the industrial and infrastructure markets, have agreed to work on a collaborative basis for promoting business opportunities using aqualia Industrial’s biological treatment technologies for industrial applications, primarily the food & beverage market, in North America.

"We are very pleased to be working with aqualia Industrial. These advanced technologies complement our robust portfolio of solutions and expand the range of biological wastewater treatment options that we can offer to our clients. This alliance enhances our leadership position within the North American wastewater treatment market," said Arun Mittal, Director - Wastewater Treatment Applications, Aquatech.

"We are very excited about Aquatech's capabilities and the enormous market potential for our biological technologies in this market" said Antonio Arias, International Business Development – Commercial Manager for aqualia industrial. "Now we have found the perfect local partner; we are looking forward to pioneering these technologies together in the US & Canada. We definitely hope to extend this collaboration to other regions of the world."

Biological wastewater technologies covered by the agreement include aerobic treatment – activated sludge, sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and membrane bioreactor (MBR); anaerobic treatment – upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB), anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (AnSBR), and anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR); and the Purasand sand filter system for treatment and purification of different types of wastewater.

SBR anaerobic biological batch reactors carry out ideally static discharge separation, for which the discharge clarification is raised. They are extremely simple as all operations are carried out in a single tank. aqualia Industrial was the first company to use this kind of technology in Spain.

aqualia Industrial is one of the pioneers in the introduction of sequential biological treatment in different industrial sectors. More than 100 of its customers make use of this technology, thanks to its advanced design of the equipment, including both the Mixjet aeration and decant systems. In addition, it has developed several pieces of software to simulate internally the biological process, according to the biokinetic parameters for its clients and its own different pilot plants. aqualia Industrial also offers the MBR aerobic biological treatment as a complementary technology to the SBR, reaching every sector.

Within this field, aqualia enjoys firm relationships with the main membrane manufacturers and distributors, using each type of membrane according to their technical and economic benefits, providing custom made solutions for each client.

After numerous tests carried out in pilot plants with different membranes, aqualia Industrial is able to offer advanced anaerobic biological treatment with ultrafiltration membranes i.e., AnMBR. This provides much superior results in terms of the quality of treated effluent, and a more flexible and robust treatment.
