Applebee's International Selected as Finalist for High Performance Workplace Award

Award Recognizes Business Innovation, Culture Change and High Impact Projects

BEA Systems (NASDAQ:BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today congratulated Applebee's International for being named one of three finalists for the Gartner High Performance Workplace (HPW) Excellence Award. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit in Orlando, Florida.

"By naming Applebee's as a finalist for this prestigious award, we believe Gartner has identified an industry-leading deployment of portal technology that has raised the bar for employee performance and productivity within their company," said Mark Carges, executive vice president, at BEA Systems. "BEA congratulates Applebee's for receiving this recognition and for their outstanding utilization of BEA portal solutions to increase collaboration across their worldwide operations."

Applebee's International and BEA AquaLogic User Interaction

Adding over 100 new restaurants worldwide in each of the past 14 years, Applebee's sought a way to improve store execution management across its restaurant network that helped ensure a consistent, positive customer experience and an increase in productivity. Through its deployment of its interactive Applebee's portal, based on BEA's AquaLogic User Interaction product suite, Applebee's has been able to project a savings to restaurant managers of approximately 20 hours per month by automating corporate reporting while eliminating costs and improving productivity.

"Applebee's chose BEA's AquaLogic portal solution in 2003 for the flexibility it provided us to deploy a wide variety of applications within our portal. Additionally, the AquaLogic Interaction portal framework helped allow us to focus on content creation and application development rather than spending valuable time on application infrastructure," said Frank Ybarra, director of communications at Applebee's International. "Our portal, my.applebees.com, has helped impact employee productivity, cut costs and improved communication throughout our system."

In addition to streamlining regular financial reports and improving management's visibility into regional and companywide performance, Applebee's has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars annually by posting corporate documents online instead of printing and shipping the more than 460 reports per year it used to produce for each of its 1,930 restaurants. Improved collaboration between corporate headquarters and individual franchises, a reduction in corporate mass emails and workflow automation have all been significant ancillary benefits of Applebee's AquaLogic portal adoption.
