Apliclor Achieves Top Environmental Certification

BARCELONA, Spain - October 8, 2009 - P.S. Apliclor, S.A., a division of Severn Trent Services, has successfully been certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2008, the internationally recognised standards for environmental management systems and quality management systems, respectively.

The accreditations, which were achieved through Bureau Veritas and the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for Apliclor's headquarters in Sant Marti de Sesgueioles, Spain, relate to the design, manufacture, sale, assembly, installation and maintenance of water treatment solutions including equipment and chemicals. This certification demonstrates the good practices of P.S. Apliclor, S.A. and highlights the maturity and effectiveness of its quality and environmental management systems and the company's commitment towards continuous improvement.

ISO 14001, an internationally recognised environmental management standard, helps organisations demonstrate environmental commitment to their stakeholders while better managing environmental impact and risk. Companies seeking to obtain ISO 14001 certification must identify significant impacts û such as carbon emissions, energy use and water consumption - and implement environmental management programmes to control and improve them.

As part of the assessment to gain ISO 14001 accreditation, Apliclor conducted a detailed review of its waste streams, identifying opportunities for re-use and recycling and considering the impact on the local surroundings.

ISO 9001 provides the requirements for a quality management system (QMS), which is a framework for an organisation to control its processes in order to achieve objectives including customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance and continual improvement. Organisations that implement the standard can choose to have their QMS independently certified as conforming to the requirements of ISO 9001 as a means of increasing the confidence of their business partners, customers and regulators in their products and services.

P.S. Apliclor, S.A. is the Severn Trent Services unit responsible for the development of sales in Spain of the company's range of disinfection, instrumentation and filtration solutions for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment.

"Achieving this certification is a significant milestone for Apliclor, and is a direct result of hard work undertaken by our employees," said Rick Bacon, P.S. Apliclor, S.A. general manager. "Their dedication and contributions have led to Apliclor attaining this important standard. It will certainly have a direct impact on the local community and on the environment as a whole."
