Agilent Technologies' Advanced Design System Selected by Kamstrup to Develop Smart Metering System

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that Kamstrup A/S, a provider of metering solutions for electricity, heat, water and natural gas, has selected Agilent’s Advanced Design System.

Kamstrup will use ADS to develop RF circuits for the company’s future smart-metering systems. Using ADS, Kamstrup will be able to bring its products to market faster, while reducing cost.

“We chose ADS because of its recognized position as the most comprehensive and flexible RF design environment on the market today,” said Jesper Friis Brahe, research and development/RF design engineer at Kamstrup. “It is supported by our component vendors, used to teach engineers at Denmark universities and familiar to most RF designers. From S-parameter-based matching utilities to integrated 3-D electromagnetic simulation with links to enterprise printed circuit board layout tools, ADS is the most economical and future-proof choice to design the RF sections of our future smart-metering products. A good working relationship with our tool vendors is also very important to us, and we were impressed by the responsiveness and professionalism of Agilent’s support organization.”

ADS is the industry’s leading electronic design automation software for RF, microwave and high-speed digital applications. As a comprehensive design environment, it provides powerful, though easy-to-use, schematic-entry and layout modules combined with system-level, circuit-level and electromagnetic simulators. Leveraging the most accurate physical model libraries and modern digital communications signal and standards libraries (for example, MIMO, OFDM, LTE and DVB), ADS makes design and verification as easy as verifying a manufactured board with modern communications test equipment-only months earlier in the product life cycle.

“Smart metering systems and advanced metering infrastructure rely heavily on RF technology to minimize cost and improve efficiency,” said Joe Civello, ADS product planning manager with Agilent EEsof EDA. “With its easy ‘what if’ analysis of alternatives and statistics-based manufacturing yield analysis and optimization, ADS plays a critical role in helping designers deliver top-quality RF circuit designs. We are pleased that Kamstrup selected ADS to help with its RF circuit design and look forward to continuing to support its needs in the future.”

Agilent will demonstrate ADS, along with its newest test solutions in microwave, millimeter-wave and submillimeter-wave systems, antennas and propagation and wireless technologies at European Microwave Week (Booth 105), Oct. 6-11 at the Nürnberg Convention Center in Nuremberg, Germany. A 10-year Platinum Sponsor, Agilent will also present a number of workshops, including a hands-on 3-D electromagnetic workshop using EMPro and another on correlating microwave measurements between handheld and benchtop analyzers using FieldFox. Registration is required to attend either workshop.
