Milwaukee, Wisconsin, - ASQ (American Society for Quality) presented the first Spencer Hutchens Jr. Medal for Social Responsibility to Joanne Adrienne Vincenten during its annual World Conference on Quality and Improvement in St. Louis, Mo., May 23. The medal recognizes the achievements of an individual who demonstrates outstanding leadership as an individual, business leader and cause advocate for social responsibility-primarily focusing on the marketplace, environment, workplace and community.

Vincenten works for the European Child Safety Alliance, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and is being awarded the Hutchens Medal for her understanding of social responsibility; her success in community development, human rights, and consumer issues; and her passion for the work that results in social and environmental improvement.

"I am thrilled and in awe to receive this award as an advocate for social responsibility in the name of Spencer Hutchens Jr.," Vincenten said. "I have the privilege to work with so many dedicated and brilliant individuals and communities all striving to improve the health and well-being of mankind, especially children and families. It is an honor for me to be recognized as being a part of making a difference in society."

The addition of the Spencer Hutchens Jr. Medal for Social Responsibility brings the number of global medals offered by ASQ each year, to 13.

The medal is named after Spencer Hutchens Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., an ASQ past president, whose personal and business life reflects and demonstrates the desired attributes in the definition and model of social responsibility.

"I am proud and humbled to have this medal named in my honor," said Hutchens. "The development of this medal strengthens and reflects ASQ's commitment to social responsibility, and to providing solutions that will help organizations meet their social responsibility goals."
