ASQ Issues 6,500 Certifications in Program for Training Next Generation of Skilled Workers
Industry-based certifications aim to close skills gap, increase access to employment, and develop future workforce
Milwaukee, Wis. - ASQ, the leading authority on quality in all fields, organizations and industries, issued more than 6,500 certifications in the U.S. in 2011 as part of a Manufacturing Institute partnership designed to help fill advanced manufacturing positions.
The Manufacturing Institute's Manufacturing Skills Certification System was developed to directly address the deficits in manufacturing education and training, which is limiting the pool of qualified candidates for highly skilled manufacturing jobs. The Manufacturing Skills Certification System is endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers.
The Manufacturing Institute and its partners set a goal of issuing 500,000 industry-based certifications to individuals by 2016. In 2011, the program's first year, The Manufacturing Institute and its partners issued 84,738 credentials.
"By issuing these certifications, ASQ is helping workers gain the knowledge that will help them find work and fill jobs," said ASQ CEO Paul Borawski. ASQ offers 17 certifications, including Certified Quality Technician, Certified Calibration Technician, Certified Quality Engineer and Certified Quality Inspector. In addition to the 6,500 certifications issued in the U.S., ASQ issued nearly 2,500 certifications internationally.
ASQ joins 15 other leading organizations representing multiple industry sectors offering skills certification programs. ASQ is the only organization in the partnership that deals specifically in the quality field, providing training and certifications directly related to quality.
