APICS Announces 2008 Corporate Awards of Excellence Recipients

Pfizer, Linksys, Symphony Metreo, ATI Industrial Automation, Consona and Pima County, Arizona all Receive Top Operations Management Awards

Chicago (September 18, 2008) APICS The Association for Operations Management today announced the winners of the 2008 APICS Corporate Awards of Excellence that recognize companies for their significant contributions and performance excellence in the field of operations management. Winners were recognized at the 2008 APICS International Conference and Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri.

The 2008 APICS Corporate Awards for Excellence are divided into three categories: The APICS Technology Partnership Award of Excellence; the Innovation in Sustainability Award of Excellence and the APICS Education Award of Excellence.

The APICS Technology Partnership Award of Excellence was presented to two teams this year for their work in furthering technology solutions that have increased success and efficiency.

The first team of Linksys and Symphony Metreo were recognized for their partnership, which resulted in the implementation of a forward-looking S&OP system that streamlines the entire supply and demand chain. To accomplish this, Linksys implemented Symphony Metreo's Finance Sales & Operations Planning solution, which has reduced inventory without a decrease in customer satisfaction. This solution also helped to increase margins, decrease expediting charges, and led to increased productivity and cross-functional collaboration, while improving the informed decision-making process.

In addition to this outstanding partnership, ATI Industrial Automation and Consona's were also recognized with the APICS Technology Partnership Award for Excellence for their work combining the powerful manufacturing and planning capabilities of Consona's Intuitive ERP with ATI's compatible product set and business model to find a solution to better manage and control delivery dates in an increasingly complex BOM structure. With this solution, ATI was able to reach unprecedented levels of on-time delivery and inventory control.

The second APICS award for excellence in the newly created category of Innovation in Sustainability was presented to Pima County, Arizona for its advancement of sustainability. Pima County's new Sustainable Action Plan integrates the goals of sustainability into virtually all facets of the way Pima County government operates. The plan features 119 action steps, addressing 8 key areas: Alternative Fuel Vehicles, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Green Building, Waste Reduction, Water Conservation and Management, Green Purchasing, Land Conservation and Management, and Reducing the County's Carbon Footprint.

The final APICS award, the APICS Education Award of Excellence, was presented to Pfizer for their ongoing commitment to education and productivity improvements based on the application of the APICS Body of Knowledge. Pfizer was selected for their outstanding efforts this year in recognizing the crucial role in APICS education plays on a global basis by supporting APICS membership and CPIM and CSCP certification in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and the Americas. Pfizer also linked APICS education to its human resources and business processes. Pfizer's commitment to education resulted in better prepared employees and further promotion of a common business language that supports harmonizing efforts.

"We are pleased to recognize organizations committed to continuous improvement, innovation and excellence," said Abe Eshkenazi, CSCP, CPA, CAE, APICS Executive Director. "The APICS Corporate Awards of Excellence winners set a standard of leadership for the profession."
