ANSI's annual Legal Issues Forum, to be held on Oct 6, will focus on standards for safety and sustainability. The first panel, Examining the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, will start with introduction by Scott Cooper of ANSI and include panelists Jameson B. Carroll, Nancy A. Nord, and Donald L. Mays. Eco-labeling: Helping to Shape the Sustainable Marketplace, with Mary C. McKiel, Ph.D., as introductory speaker, will feature Robert S. Kaye, Jill Wasserman, and Urvashi Rangan.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will hold its annual Legal Issues Forum on October 6 during the World Standards Week 2009 series of events.
This year's forum will focus on standards for safety and sustainability through two panels. The first panel, Examining the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), will kick off the forum with an introduction by Scott Cooper, ANSI vice president of government relations. Attendees will then hear from three panelists:
Jameson B. Carroll of King & Spalding LLP: Laying the Groundwork: What is the CPSIA? Nancy A. Nord, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission: Implementing the CPSIA: The CPSC's Perspective Donald L. Mays, Consumers Union/Consumer Reports: CPSIA and the Consumer's Perspective
Following a brief break, attendees will reconvene for the forum's second panel, Eco-labeling: Helping to Shape the Sustainable Marketplace. Mary C. McKiel, Ph.D., of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will provide introductory remarks. Three speakers will then share their thoughts on eco-labeling with attendees:
Robert S. Kaye, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission: The FTC Green Guides Jill Wasserman, King & Spalding LLP: The Legal Landscape Urvashi Rangan, Consumers Union: The Problem of Greenwashing
The 2009 Legal Issues Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
