The Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP) and NSF International (NSF), two members and accredited standards developers of the American National Standards Institute, have announced a joint agreement to pursue research and testing to advance health and safety in the recreational water industry.

Through this collaboration, NSF has agreed to provide research and testing services for the development and maintenance of APSP's standards. NSF will also perform general research on the prevention of injuries and illnesses related to recreational water activities.

"This agreement will enable APSP to ensure the test methods in APSP standards for pools, spas and components are robust, accurate, and repeatable," said Carvin DiGiovanni, APSP senior director, technical and standards.

"NSF International has been testing and certifying pool and spa equipment since 1963," said Bob Ferguson, vice president of water systems. "During that time we have developed standards for products ranging from UV systems to water test kits. We are proud and committed to work with APSP for the benefit of the recreational water industry and the advancement of public health and safety."
