The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) welcomed delegations from the Standards Institution of Israel (SII) and the Ministry of Commerce of The People's Republic of China (MOFCOM) earlier this month in its Washington, DC, headquarters.
ANSI hosted SII representatives on July 12, 2010, as part of a program organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC). The meeting allowed for fruitful discussions regarding the United States Standards Strategy and StandardsPortal, an online resource for international trade, as well as recent topics of interest to the ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel (HSSP), including periphery electric fences and biometrics.
During their time in the U.S., the SII delegation visited the Sandia National Laboratory in New Mexico and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado to learn about U.S. activities in photovoltaics (PV) and wind energy, on July 8-9. In DC, the delegation participated in a number of roundtable discussions with government and industry representatives on PV and wind energy, healthcare information technology, SmartGrid, water, and machinery safety.
On July 13, Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) assistant minister Fang Aiqing, along with several MOFCOM delegates, visited ANSI's headquarters. Led by ANSI president and CEO Joe Bhatia, the meeting included an overview of ANSI and the U.S. standards system, and an introduction to the StandardsPortal. Attendees also discussed possible opportunities for future collaboration in the areas of standards and conformance to help companies doing business in the U.S. and China, including training and educational programs.
