Press release date: August 6, 2012

The American National Standards Institute Homeland Security Standards Panel (ANSI-HSSP) will host a roundtable discussion, Resiliency Metrics: Standards, Test Labs & Methods, and Measuring Tools, on August 22 to discuss current resilience standards and the possible creation of a new system for designating resilience. The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans in conjunction with the 61st SES Annual Conference, overseen by SES - The Society for Standards Professionals, which is scheduled to take place August 19-22 in New Orleans.

The ability to adjust effectively to changing circumstances and to respond appropriately to unexpected events is a crucial part of homeland security efforts. The roundtable will examine current standards that touch on issues of resilience in a variety of relevant fields, including transportation and information technology (IT).

In addition, the discussion will touch on methods of measuring resilience, as well as the possibility of creating public-private cooperative groups to establish a comprehensive certification and ratings system for designating resilience.

The roundtable format is intended to allow for significant attendee participation in the discussions. All ANSI and ANSI-HSSP members and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

The event will take place on Wednesday, August 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans (601 Loyola Avenue, New Orleans). All attendees must register with Jessica Carl, ANSI program administrator, standards panels (jcarl@ansi.org; 212-642-4903), by Friday, August 17, 2012. Questions may be directed to Ms. Carl, or to Michelle Deane, ANSI director, homeland security standards (mdeane@ansi.org; 212.642.4884).
