Arlington, Va. -AIA presented its 2012 Worker Safety Excellence Awards to LMI Aerospace, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Raytheon Corporation and Honeywell Aerospace on May 3. The presentation was made at AIA's Environment, Safety and Health Committee's Spring Conference in Dallas, Texas.

"The member companies of AIA are absolutely committed to improving the health and safety of our workforce," said AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey. "These annual awards are an opportunity to reinforce that commitment, and congratulate the winners and all the companies who participate in the program."

The Worker Safety Excellence Awards recognize companies that demonstrate key elements of a corporate safety program and achieve the lowest injury and illness rates within four aerospace industry sectors.

LMI Aerospace, a first time honoree, took top honors for the Most Improved Worker Safety category. This award is for most improved performance from 2010 through 2011 in reducing injury and illness rates.

Northrop Grumman Corporation took first place honors in the Aircraft Manufacturing sector for the Worker Safety Excellence Award.

Honeywell Aerospace repeated in two of the three Worker Safety Excellence Awards in sectors that it won in 2011: Engine and Aircraft Parts, and Space and Missiles. Raytheon took first in Guidance and Communications.

The 2012 program was marked by extremely close safety rates in all manufacturing sectors amongst all finalists. Textron was a runner-up in three categories: Aircraft, Engines and Aircraft Parts and Guidance and Communications.

The Worker Safety Excellence Awards were established seven years ago to highlight worker health and safety programs.

Founded in 1919 shortly after the birth of flight, the Aerospace Industries Association is the most authoritative and influential trade association representing the nation's leading manufacturers and suppliers of civil, military and business aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aircraft systems, space systems, aircraft engines, missiles, homeland and cybersecurity systems, materiel and related components, equipment services and information technology.
