Linux Quick-Start Board Support Packages Accelerate OEM Development

June 5, 2007, Eugene, OR - VersaLogic Corp. today announced it will begin providing Linux board support packages (BSPs) for two of its single board computers, the Gecko and Puma. These new BSPs complement similar software packages released for the Cobra (EBX) and Cheetah (PC/104-Plus) SBCs in 2006. The packages are based on the popular Debian Linux, which has been configured for easy installation and support of each board's hardware features. The Linux install CD streamlines hardware setup by eliminating the need for O/S configuration and driver installation by the developer. The Debian Linux OS can be used during system development as a means of exploring the capabilities of the board, or it can be used as the base OS in the target system.

With the use of bundled software, embedded engineers are able to move through the development stage faster and obtain an advantage over the competition. Engineers who have expressed interest in the Linux OS, but aren't familiar with the required setup procedures, are the target audience for this software. "These packages make Linux installation as easy, or easier, than other commercial operating systems," said Gary Harris, VP of Engineering at VersaLogic.

The software CDs are available to qualified OEMs as part of a product evaluation order of a VersaLogic single board computer. To order a no-charge 45-day product evaluation that includes a Debian Linux package, contact the VersaLogic Corp. Technical Sales Department at (800) 824-3163 or Info@VersaLogic.com.
