PrintEnergy companies see dramatic change on the horizon. Such factors as energy efficiency, deployment of renewables, and smart-grid technologies will spark the change. But few will have as much impact on power companies’ business model as distributed generation. This is one of several conclusions drawn from the 13th PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Annual Global Power and Utilities Survey. PwC interviewed the represententatives of 53 power companies and utilities from 35 countries. Nearly all -- 94 percent -- predict complete transformation or important changes to the power utility business model. Of them, 4 percent expect the business models to be “unrecognizable” to today’s current structure. Forty-one percent plan to adapt their business models within the next 10 years.  Read More
