BIO Thanks Senators for extending tax policy.

BIO thanked Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) as well as Senate Finance Committee for including Cellulosic Biofuels Producer Tax Credit (PTC), Accelerated Depreciation Allowance for Cellulosic Biofuel Plant Property, algae biofuels addition in tax extenders package, and extending R/D tax credit for 2 years. In his statement, BIO's Jim Greenwood said "Advanced biofuel and renewable chemicals tax credits drive innovation while leveling the playing field for U.S. companies." Read More

NEMA CEO appointed to serve on Federal Advisory Committee.

NEMA President and CEO Evan Gaddis was appointed to serve on Federal Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness, which will advise Secretary of Commerce on development and administration of programs and policies to expand U.S. exports of goods, services, and technology in accordance with applicable U.S. regulations. IPC Educational Outreach clarifies ITAR regulation.

On August 22, IPC and Chicagoland Circuit Board Association will host meeting at IPC Midwest Conference and Exhibition on IPC's new educational campaign, Follow the Law, Protect the Board. Campaign was developed to raise awareness and compliance with federal International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) regulation of printed boards and their designs. Meeting attendees will also learn about key issues and changes in U.S. export control regulations. Read More

Proposed Standard looks at road paving materials.

August 6, 2012

Proposed standard ASTM WK38070, Practice for Sample Preparation and Conditioning with Additives, is being developed by ASTM International Committee D04 on Road and Paving Materials. According to D04.20 subcommittee chairman Richard Steger, proposed practice would ensure mixtures produced in lab will match performance of materials placed in field. Also, performance of mixtures using such additives will be predictable during bituminous mixture design and liquid asphalt binder formulation stage. Read More

Proposed Standard addresses factory fabricated geomembranes.

August 6, 2012

Used as hydraulic and gas barriers, geomembranes are intended for pond and canal liners, landfill liners, caps, and floating covers. ASTM WK38128, Guide for Identification, Packaging, Handling, Storage and Deployment of Fabricated Geomembrane Panels, will provide guidance for installation and use of factory fabricated geomembrane panels at job sites. It will also provide definitions for commonly used terms such as fabricated panel, accordion-folded panel, and fabricator. Read More

Senate Committee approves Defense Appropriations Bill.

Senate Appropriations Committee approved Defense Appropriations bill that supports innovation and invigorates industrial base. Coalition of stakeholders thanked members of committee for providing funds for Defense Production Act to build production capacity for critical defense-related initiatives. BIO Issues Call for Sessions for its 2013 convention.

BIO invites biotechnology, health care, energy, business, government policy, and food agriculture experts to submit proposals for breakout sessions at 2013 BIO International Convention, which will be held in Chicago, IL from April 22-25. Proposals will be accepted August 23 through September 27, 2012 and are open to all industry experts looking to advance field of thought, gain media exposure and visibility, or establish dialogue among their peers.
