Power Systems Conference to focus on energy optimized aircraft.

Scheduled for Oct 30 to Nov 1, 2012, SAE International's 10th biennial Power Systems Conference will highlight technology in transition in military and commercial aerospace, and other military power system applications. NIST Selects Winner of secure hash algorithm competition.

October 4, 2012

NIST announced Keccak, created by Guido Bertoni, Joan Daemen and Gilles Van Assche of STMicroelectronics and Michaël Peeters of NXP Semiconductors, as winner of 5-year competition to select new cryptographic hash algorithm. NIST's team praised Keccak for its design qualities as well as its ability to run on different computing devices. With clarity of construction that facilitates analysis, Keccak offered higher performance in hardware implementations than SHA-2 or any other finalist. Read More

NICE Workshop adds cyber threat training/competition track.

Third annual National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Workshop will take place October 30 through November 1 in Gaithersburg, MD. With its "Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity Education–Connecting the Dots in Cyberspace" theme, this workshop will focus on making cyber connections between government, academia, industry, and public to help NICE achieve its goals. Educational Program teaches about valve basics.

Targeting those who want to learn basics of industrial valves or expand their knowledge about products used to control flow, Valve Basics Seminar will be held in Denver, CO from October 11–12, 2012. Valves and Actuators 101 course consists of lessons that guide attendees through valves and systems they help control. In addition to various sessions and tabletop exhibit, event will feature "Valve Petting Zoo" that lets participants touch and feel examples of products discussed during course. Read More

ANSI and JSMO sign Memorandum of Understanding.

Making formal commitment to cooperation in standardization activities, ANSI and the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization have signed Memorandum of Understanding. JSMO belongs to the International Organization for Standardization and is a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission through IEC National Committee of Jordan. MoU reflects essential connection between standards, conformance, and trade, and seeks to establish future areas of cooperation between the organizations. Read More

NEMA Publishes Standard regarding CT access controls.

October 4, 2012

NEMA has published NEMA XR 26 Access Controls for Computer Tomography: Identification, Interlocks, and Logs. It applies to particular functioning of computer tomography (CT) system, as covered by scope of IEC 60601-2-44, and relates to who has access/permission to use system for clinical or other uses. Standard also contains functionality for use in facility's QA program, such as capturing operator and patient information, as well as information related to saved changes in protocols. Read More
