PMMI Announced New Board Members at annual meeting.

PMMI membership elected 7 members to PMMI Board of Directors, and Board of Directors chose its Executive Committee for 2013. PMMI Chairman Nick Wilson introduced slate of candidates for Board of Directors to membership and said "Every one of these individuals will bring perspective and insight to PMMI’s guiding body." While Board Members will serve January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2016, Executive Committee members will serve one year terms from January 1 to December 31, 2013. Read More

ANSI Encourages Comments on ISO global water issues workshop.

On July 25-26, ISO held international workshop, "Global water challenges - How can ISO standards help?", focused on global water issues in Kobe, Japan. ISO's Implementation Task Force on Water, charged with integrating priorities set at workshop with ISO Council recommendations, will hold webinar in late September to further develop ideas discussed during workshop. ASTM Symposium will look at zirconium in nuclear industry.

Sponsored by ASTM International Committee B10 on Reactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys, 17th International Symposium on Zirconium in the Nuclear Industry will be held February 3-7, 2013 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Indianapolis International Airport to receive FAA AIP grant.

Indianapolis International Airport will receive $3.2 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant intended for construction of de-icing containment facility. As announced by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, these investments help support economic growth as we enhance our nation's airports. Linings of both systems will be replaced, allowing for better efficiency on field. Existing storm water system is operating at full capacity. Read More

Motors Shipments Climb in second quarter of 2012.

According to NEMA's Motors Shipments Index, demand for motors increased for third straight quarter during 2Q 2012 with increase of 5.3% from previous quarter. Since bottoming out in 2Q 2009, during depths of the Great Recession, index has climbed cumulative 53% and topped its pre-recession high for 5 straight quarters. While strong growth was also shown in fractional and integral horsepower motor segments, manufacturing sector only benefited from weak annualized gain of 1.4%. Read More

NEMA has published ANSI C136.1 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment-Filament Lamps-A Guide for Selection. Used to aid in proper selection of filament lamps for use in roadway and area lighting equipment, guide includes updated reference documents and modernized terms in line with current industry terminology. FAA Announces Grant to reconstruct Van Nuys Airport runway.

September 12, 2012

Announced by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, $18.4 million FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will be used to reconstruct and repave primary runway at Van Nuys Airport. Construction, which encompasses rehabilitation of entire 8,000 ft long primary runway, is expected to begin in early 2013 and take 9 months to complete. Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta said "This grant will ensure the airport will continue to operate safely and efficiently." Read More

IPC and Raytheon Partner Together to advance HDI technology.

To help companies gain most from HDI (high density interconnect) technology, Raytheon is sponsoring "IPC HDI Conference: Advancements in Materials, Processes and Applications." Event will take place October 24-25 in Los Angeles, CA and feature Peter Gould's keynote, "The Raytheon HDI Roadmap," as well as other speakers presenting on HDI-related topics.
