Revised ISO 9001 and ISO 9000 Standards are now available.

Replacing previous versions, ISO 9001:2015 standard sets out the requirements for a quality management system. Standard builds on 7 quality management principles, and incorporates elements such as stronger focus on stakeholders and wider context of organization to fit evolving needs of modern business. Serving as companion document, ISO 9000:2015 contains detailed explanations of the 7 quality management principles, as well as terms and definitions used in ISO 9001. Read More

ASHRAE And IBPSA-USA announce second conference.

ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA have announced second, co-organized conference that encompasses ASHRAE Energy Modeling and IBPSA-USA SimBuild Conferences. Titled ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2016: Building Performance Modeling, event will take place Aug 10–12, 2016. Modelers, software developers, owners, and researchers will address practices of energy modeling and building performance simulation using existing simulation tools, software development, and future simulation research and applications. ANSI Accredited Committee revises standard for lamp ballasts.

September 25, 2015

ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C82 revised ANSI C82.6 American National Standard for Lamp Ballasts—Ballasts for High-Intensity Discharge Lamps—Methods of Measurement. Standard is updated to provide industry-wide consistency for products that have technological advantages of electronic ballasts and can be paired with existing low-frequency lamps. ANSI C82.6 also describes procedures to be followed and precautions to be taken in measuring performance of low-frequency ballasts for HID lamps. Read More

ANSI, CII Sign MOU to boost Indo-U.S. standards cooperation.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) signed renewed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). In service of U.S.-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue, MOU reaffirms ANSI's and CII’s commitment to working together to advance Indo-U.S. cooperation on standards and conformity assessment. Renewed MOU covers planned expansions to StandardsPortal website as well as plans to foster standards cooperation in various sectors. Read More

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community. ICC Evaluation Service has appointed Danny Wong as technical staff lead for its building products listing program. In this role, Mr. Wong will lead all technical activities and oversee evaluation of products. A licensed civil engineer and active member of ASCE, Mr. Wong brings over 18 years of experience to the position. Read More

ANSI Offers NFPA Standards via website license subscriptions.

Though its website, ANSI offers site license subscriptions for National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Over 1,300 of NFPA's current and historical standards, utilized to reduce worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on quality of life, are available. Site license provides multi-user access to specific standards from anywhere worldwide, and subscribers can create customized site license collection by selecting standards from different standards developers. PACK EXPO Las Vegas guides attendees on compliance issues.

Taking place September 28–30, PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2015 will host 30,000 attendees and >2,000 exhibitors in over 800,000 ft² net exhibit space. This processing and packaging event will address trends and spotlight solutions for meat and food producers. Jim Pittas, PMMI senior vice president, said protein and food processing professionals need to focus on consumer trends and keep up to date on food safety rules and noted that PACK EXPO will provide access to suppliers and education. ASHRAE HQ Installs Display of first electric refrigerator.

ASHRAE Headquarters in Atlanta, GA is displaying first successful electric household refrigerator, DOMEstic ELectric REfrigerator (DOMELRE), which was manufactured 100 years ago. This historical piece was developed by Fred Wolf Jr., charter member of American Society of Refrigerating Engineers (1905) that merged with heating and ventilating engineers to form ASHRAE in 1959. DOMELRE condenser, evaporator, and motor from 1916 were installed on first floor of ASHRAE Headquarters on June 19. Read More

HVACR Industry Reports estimate employee demand increase.

Released by HVACR Workforce Development Foundation, 3 reports and accompanying executive summary confirm demand outstrips supply of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) employees. Critical shortages, regarding mechanics and installers, were noted in most areas of USA. Reasons for this difference included increased sector growth and ongoing retirement. FAA Provides Funding for runway incursion mitigation projects.

FAA provided $11 million in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds to 8 airports that have runway incursion risk factors. Airports receiving funding for projects include Waco Regional ($6.4 million), Midway International ($600,000), Philadelphia International ($16,000), and Cleveland International ($2,332,214). Airports receiving funding for Runway Incursion Mitigation studies include Dallas Addison (TX), Lone Star Executive (TX), Scholes International (TX), and San Jose International (CA). Read More

DOE releases common definition of zero energy buildings.

U.S. DOE reached significant milestone in bringing the building community together by releasing common definition of a zero energy building, or what is also referred to as a "net zero energy" or "zero net energy" building. Publication states that a Zero Energy Building is "an energy-efficient building where, on a source energy basis, the actual annual delivered energy is less than or equal to onsite renewable exported energy." SPE Announces Winners of thermoforming parts competition.

Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) announced winners of SPE Thermoforming Division annual parts competition during Thermoforming Division's annual conference. There were 20 categories, in addition to student parts competition, and Peoples’ Choice competition resulted in tie. Upon noting that there were 30+ parts submitted this year, 2015 Parts Competition Chair Matt O’Hagan said "SPE Thermoforming Division is extremely pleased with the quality and quantity of the submissions."
