AIA congratulates Bob Hoover on Wright Brothers Trophy Award.

Robert L. “Bob” Hoover was selected to receive 2014 Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to a living American for "significant public service of enduring value to aviation in the United States." Hoover served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, flying 58 successful missions before being shot down and captured by Germany. He later escaped from Stalag Luft 1 and returned to Allied lines. His civilian career as an air show pilot lasted more than 50 years. Read More

ELFA releases August's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index.

According to ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index, overall new business volume for August was $7.2 billion, up 13% from new business volume in August 2013. Month over month, new business volume was down 9% from July. Year to date, cumulative new business volume increased 6% compared to 2013. Receivables over 30 days increased from previous month to 1.3%, and were up from 1% in the same period in 2013. Charge-offs were unchanged for fifth consecutive month at an all-time low of 0.2%. PCB Industry Summer Slowdown continued in August.

According to August findings from its monthly North American PCB Statistical Program, sales and orders were weaker year over year, but book-to-bill ratio edged up to just above parity at 1.01. Total North American PCB shipments decreased 3.6% in August 2014 from August 2013, reducing year-to-date shipment growth to -0.9%. Compared to previous month, PCB shipments were up 4.9%. PCB bookings decreased by 4.5% compared to August 2013, putting year-to-date order growth rate at -5.9%. Read More

FABTECH 2014 to host keynotes by Walmart, Google executives.

In addition to keynote presentations by executives from Google Enterprise and Walmart, FABTECH 2014 will feature Veterans Day panel on how veterans can help bridge skills gap, predictions for coming year from manufacturing executives, and motivational speech by U.S. veteran and football star Rocky Bleier. FAA's Motion Picture UAS Decision is a good first step.

AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey made statement regarding FAA's decision to permit limited use of unmanned aircraft systems to produce motion pictures. By permitting use of UAS in film production, FAA has taken first of several necessary steps towards integration of UAS into civil airspace while encouraging continued research and development of UAS technologies. Decision acknowledges long history of safe operations in both civil and military applications of remotely piloted aircraft. Read More

FAA Updates Statement on Chicago air traffic facility.

October 3, 2014

FAA technicians continue to work around-the-clock to restore telecommunications services at Chicago En Route Center in Aurora, IL. While some new communications equipment has been installed, workers also have to lay as much as 10 miles of new cable and restore service to hundreds of electrical circuits and switches at said facility. Cleaning crews have finished restoration work on most undamaged equipment and are continuing to clean the smoke-contaminated ventilation system. Read More
