International CES will feature record amount of exhibit space.

Taking place in Las Vegas, NV from January 8–11, 2013 International CES® will feature show floor with more than 1.87 million net square feet. Event will see 3,000 exhibitors, which will include record number of 8 automakers; iLounge Pavilion, showcasing 440+ exhibitors; Eureka Park, featuring 140 exhibitors; and FitnessTech TechZone, with 220+ showcasing companies. NIST's Liddle, Spielman have been elected APS Fellows.

December 17, 2012

In recognition of their outstanding contributions to physics, NIST scientists J. Alexander Liddle and Ian Spielman have been elected Fellows of the American Physical Society (APS). Liddle's APS citation is for contributions to science and technology of nanofabrication and nanolithography, while Spielman's citation is for work in quantum phenomena at intersection of atomic and condensed matter physics using quantum simulation with ultracold atoms. IPC Hosts Workshop on ITAR's application to printed boards.

As part of its Follow the Law, Protect the Board educational campaign, IPC-hosted educational workshop for defense contractors on International Traffic in Arms Regulations' (ITAR) applicability to printed boards featured senior government officials and leading export control practitioners. ANSI/NEMA Standard covers FEP insulated high-temperature wire.

ANSI/NEMA HP 4-2012 covers specific requirements for fluorinated ethylene propylene insulated solid and stranded wire, designed for internal wiring of high reliability electrical and electronic equipment. Publication addresses 250 V (type KT), 600 V (type K), and 1,000 V (type KK) hook-up wire and permits continuous conductor temperature ratings of -65 to +200°C with silver-coated or nickel-coated conductors and -65 to +150°C with tin-coated conductors. Antec® Mumbai's Success leads to plans for second in India.

ANTEC® Mumbai 2012 concluded on December 7, and its success and will be followed in December 2014 by second ANTEC in India. At ANTEC Mumbai 2012, over 450 delegates attended 178 original, peer-reviewed technical presentations across 7 parallel tracks over 2 days. ASTM to develop standards for sustainable dentistry.

To recognize and encourage sustainable dental practices, ASTM Subcommittee E60.80 on General Sustainability Standards has begun to develop proposed new standard, ASTM WK34710, Practice for Sustainable Dentistry. Dental professionals will be able to use ASTM WK34710 to identify sustainable methods for selecting materials and products; determining appropriate disposal of products; building or remodeling dental offices; and discharging materials into waste stream. NIST and NFI come together to improve forensic science.

Having signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 29, 2012, NIST and Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) seek to improve accuracy and reliability of forensic science by sharing expertise, research findings, and programs of mutual interest as well as aligning respective responsibilities to forensic science community. NIST and NFI will collaborate through activities focused on R/D, development of forensic standards, education and training, as well as forensic governance. Read More
