IEC Electronics Corp earns QML certification to IPC/WHMA-A-620.

IPC's Validation Services Program awarded first IPC/WHMA-A-620 Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML) to IEC Electronics Corporation's Newark, NY and Albuquerque, NM locations as well as Southern California Braiding facility in Bell Gardens, CA. These facilities completed audit to IPC/WHMA-A-620 and met/exceeded requirements for electronics industry's Class 3 classification. They will be listed as IPC-trusted source capable of manufacturing in accordance with industry best practices. Read More

Electrical Impedance Scanner Standard applies to roofing surveys.

ASTM D7954/D7954M, Practice for Moisture Surveying of Roofing and Waterproofing Systems Using Non-Destructive Electrical Impedance Scanners, was developed by Subcommittee D08.20 on Roofing Membrane Systems. Used at various points in roofing/waterproofing system life cycle, standard covers use of electrical impedance scanners to monitor moisture level of roofing system. Standard offers guidelines for moisture scanners, their use, and on which roofing systems scanners are most effective. Read More

ASTM Textiles Standard aids materials thermal effusivity testing.

ASTM WK43374, Test Method for Measurement of Thermal Effusivity of Fabrics Using a Guarded Modified Transient Plane Source (MTPS) Instrument, will aid measurement of thermal properties of textiles. According to ASTM member Shannon Yawney, proposed standard will become benchmark scale test method for textile mills to compare and develop new technologies for managing heat. NEMA publishes American National Standard for Electric Lamps.

NEMA has published ANSI C78.901-2014 American National Standard for Electric Lamps—Single-Based Fluorescent Lamps—Dimensional and Electrical Characteristics. Standard sets forth physical and electrical characteristics required to assure interchangeability and to assist in proper application of single-based fluorescent lamps. Revision includes data sheets, for high frequency lamps, that contain information for dimming ballast design, effective January 1, 2015. Read More

Proposed ASTM Standard addresses pigment loss on ignition.

November 20, 2014

Pigment manufacturers use loss on ignition test to determine water of hydration or crystallized water. Proposed standard, ASTM WK46877, Test Method for Pigment Loss on Ignition, will provide definitive instructions for conducting this common test. Manufacturers will use results of testing as means for product validation. Test will also be used to determine both the acceptable and detrimental levels of water for different types of pigments. Draft standard ASTM WK46735, Guide for Evaluating the Variables that Can Increase the Durability of an Installed Flashing Assembly, will satisfy market need for standard to define durable flashing and will create level playing field for flashing manufacturers. Standard will provide measurable and process-based assessment elements to characterize performance of flashing assemblies. Proposed Standard covers composite electrical conductors.

ASTM B987, Specification for Carbon Fiber Composite Core/Thermoset Matrix for Use in Overhead Electrical Conductors, will establish methods used to measure critical properties of composite core products specifically for overhead power line applications. These properties allow composite conductor to perform at much higher power levels than traditional steelcore conductor. Utilities will use ASTM B987 to confirm that composite conductors they purchase will perform according to their line designs. Read More
