New FAA Rules/Regulations target small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

FAA's proposed regulations framework would allow routine use of specific small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in aviation system while maintaining flexibility to accommodate future technological innovations. Applicable to <55 lb UASs conducting non-recreational operations, safety rules limit flights to daylight and visual-line-of-sight operations and addresses height restrictions, operator certification, optional use of visual observer, aircraft registration/marking, and operational limits. NEMA's DA Section is scheduled to release its first white paper.

On behalf of its Distribution Automation (DA) Section, NEMA will release white paper focusing on importance of incorporating DA into grid, its cost justifications, and recommended call to action so benefits of DA equipment and systems can be fully utilized. Voted on through ballot process by members of IPC's Technical Program Committee, best technical conference paper of IPC APEX EXPO 2015 is "High Frequency Loss Test Methods for Laminate Materials Comparison (a High Density Packaging User Group/HDPUG Project)," by Karl Sauter, Oracle Corporation USA, and co-author Joseph Smetana, Alcatel-Lucent. AIA supports FAA's proposed UAS regulations.

According to AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey, FAA has taken an important step towards integration of UAS into civil airspace by issuing draft regulations for use of small unmanned aircraft systems. Issuance of these proposed regulations is a key element of government and industry efforts to foster safe operations in both civil and military applications of remotely piloted aircraft while further encouraging research and development of UAS technologies. States aim to reduce nutrient levels in waterways.

Twelve states of Hypoxia Task Force have devised strategies to speed up reduction of nutrient levels in the Mississippi/Atchafalaya River Basin, which are a key contributor each summer to large area of low oxygen in the Gulf of Mexico known as a dead zone. Each state has outlined specific actions it will take to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater plants, industries, agriculture, and stormwater runoff. Target date for shrinking dead zone from 6,000 to 2,000 square miles is 2035. Read More

NREL takes in-depth look at solar project completion times.

NREL has gathered and analyzed data for more than 30,000 solar photovoltaic installations across the U.S. to better understand how interconnection regulations align with actual project completion timelines. Findings indicate that interconnection process delays are common, and can range from several days to months.
