ASTM Standards Related to Crude Oils are available on CD.

ASTM International has released CD compilation, ASTM Standards Related to Crude Oils that provides 40 key standards for anyone involved with sampling and analysis of crude oils after they are produced and stabilized. CD is targeted for operators of pipelines and tankers that transport crude oil, terminals that temporarily store it, laboratory personnel responsible for its characterization, refiners that process it, and traders responsible for its sale or acquisition. PDTA Spring Leaders Conference helped foster communications.

Held in Charleston, SC from March 15-17, PTDA Spring Leaders Conference introduced participants to new business ideas and concepts. It brought together nearly 120 PTDA distributors and manufacturers from all leadership levels for networking and learning. Conference encompassed 3 components: governance meetings for PTDA's new committees, Leadership Development Conference, and General Educational Session. TRIB and DOT update all Retread Plant Codes.

April 19, 2012

Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB) recently completed multi-month project with Department of Transportation (DOT) to update their Retread Plant Code database with accurate plant details, including identifying plants no longer in operation. Identification of 5,023 plant codes that were no longer in use and could be recycled avoided having to move to 4-digit code. Read More

To be held in Torino, Italy, symposiums will bring together industry experts from aerospace, automotive, and wind energy to address economics of composites and composite design, tooling, and manufacturing. AMCA International receives A2LA Accreditation.

As of April 1, 2012, Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA) has been granted ISO 17025 Accreditation for both AMCA 540 and AMCA 500-L, Figure 5.11. AMCA is accepting testing applications for both immediately. AMCA laboratory's fulfillment of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 requirements means laboratory meets both technical competence requirements and management system requirements necessary for it to consistently deliver technically valid test results and calibrations. ISO/IEC JTC 1 Launches Incubator Group to deal with ICT and WPT.

International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, Information Technology, announced creation of Incubator Group on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) over Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) Technologies. Chartered for one year, group will research ICT issues related to wireless power transfer. Intentions include establishing framework of ICT over WPT and developing harmonized vocabulary for WPT. RIA recognizes industry leaders with Phoenix Awards.

RIA presented its highest honors for innovation in restoration and reconstruction at its Leadership Summit and Industry Expo. Innovation in Restoration award was shared between 8 different parties who collaborated to successfully restore the air traffic control tower at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. BELFOR USA of Exton, PA won Innovation in Reconstruction award for their work on the 100,000 ft² headquarters of UGI Corporation in King of Prussia, PA following an electrical fire. Read More

Committee C07 on Lime marks 100 years of standards development.

In addition to standards development meetings, Committee C07 on Lime will hold dinner on June 27 to mark anniversary, with speakers who will provide perspectives on C07 and its history. Symposium on "Lime: Building on the 100-Year Legacy of ASTM Committee C07," will be held on June 28, and will feature papers highlighting variety of lime uses. EPA to allow 15% renewable fuel in gasoline.

April 13, 2012

EPA approved applications for registration of ethanol in making gasoline that contains up to 15% ethanol - known as E15. For over 30 years, ethanol has been blended into gasoline, but law limited it to 10% by volume. Registration of ethanol to make E15 is significant step toward production, sale, and use in 2001 and newer gasoline-fueled cars/light trucks. To enable widespread use of E15, Obama Administration set goal to help fueling station owners install 10,000 blender pumps over next 5 years. Read More

Recovery Transformer Program produces EHV replacement prototype.

April 13, 2012

As part of a consortium, EPRI has helped develop prototype transformer that can replace damaged/destroyed transformer in ~1 week, instead of several months, to prevent sustained power outages. Prototype is known as a Recovery Transformer (RecX) and located at CenterPoint Energy substation for testing. Goal of RecX Program is to increase resilience of USA's electric transmission grid by reducing recovery time associated with extra high voltage (EHV) transformer outages. Read More

ASTM Compilation covers uncertainty in fire standards.

Available in print and as e-book, STP 1541, Uncertainty in Fire Standards and What to Do About It, compiles 11 peer-reviewed papers on issues related to uncertainty in fire standards and how different parties incorporate uncertainty into their use of results from fire safety tests and calculations. RIA Immediate Past President wins Martin L. King Award.

RIA presented Martin L. King Award to Frank Headen, CR, WLS, CMH, at its annual Leadership Summit and Industry Expo. Given annually, award recognizes individual's exceptional service and dedication to restoration industry. Headen was involved in restoration efforts at the Pentagon and World Trade Centers following 9-11; NASA facilities at Kennedy Space Center; and FBI Headquarters and Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
