FABTECH 2014 Industry Night takes place at Football Hall of Fame.

FABTECH (November 11–13, 2014) will host FABTECH Industry Night on November 12 at College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, GA. Industry Night provides attendees with networking opportunities beyond exhibit hall floor as well as opportunity to see 4-time Super Bowl champion, Vietnam War veteran, and keynote speaker Rocky Bleier. On November 12 at 8:30 am, Bleier will speak about parallels between his challenges and those faced by manufacturers in today's competitive marketplace. Read More

ELFA establishes Equipment Finance Hall of Fame.

ELFA has established Equipment Finance Hall of Fame to annually recognize individuals who have made unique, significant, or lasting contributions to equipment finance industry throughout their careers. ELFA President and CEO William G. Sutton, CAE, announced the new program and inaugural class of 10 inductees: Abe Bernstein, Spencer Wiscomb Clawson, Michael J. Fleming, John H. Giddens, Adolf Sonny Monosson, Peter K. Nevitt, Ken N. Pontikes, James H. Possehl, Bob Stubbs, and Thomas C. Wajnert. Read More

EPA Proposes Removal of 72 Chemicals from pesticide products.

October 31, 2014

U.S. EPA requests public comment on proposed removal of 72 chemicals from list of substances approved for use as inert ingredients in pesticide products. According to EPA's Jim Jones, "This is the first major step in our strategy to reduce risks from pesticides containing potentially hazardous inert ingredients." EPA is taking this action in response to petitions by several parties, and comments are due November 21, 2014. Read More

NAM addresses how to build talent pipeline.

NAM's Task Force on Competitiveness & the Workforce presented action plan to improve workforce preparedness and capabilities to NAM Board of Directors' Doug Oberhelman. Task force created toolkit and guide to help manufacturing leaders collaborate in local communities to determine key competencies needed for new hires to succeed in advanced manufacturing operations, develop plan for local workforce training providers to deliver training, and grow pipeline to ensure supply of future skilled talent. ELFA announces new Board of Directors and Officers.

October 30, 2014

During the 53rd Annual Convention, ELFA announced its new Board of Directors and Officers who will serve during the next 12 months. Robert "Bob" Rinaldi, CEO of Commercial Industrial Finance, is the Chairman of the Board and William Stephenson, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of DLL, is now Chairman-Elect. Chairman-Elect and new board members were recommended by ELFA’s Nominating Committee and approved by a vote of the general membership. Read More

FAA Awards $10.2 Million in Environmental Grants to 6 airports.

Albuquerque International Sunport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Chicago O’Hare International, Dallas-Fort Worth International, Seattle-Tacoma International, and Yeager (WV) were awarded $10.2 million in FAA grants to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Through Voluntary Airport Low Emission (VALE) program, airport sponsors can use Airport Improvement Program funds and passenger facility charges to help acquire various airport-related air quality improvements. AASHTO supports FHWA request for additional ET-Plus testing.

Since safety of the traveling public is of paramount concern, AASHTO supported Federal Highway Administration's request that Texas-based guardrail manufacturer Trinity Industries Inc., maker of the ET-Plus guardrail end treatment, re-test the device to ensure that it meets eligibility requirements for use on federal-aid projects. AASHTO Awards Top Prizes in Faces of Transportation contest.

October 30, 2014

Faces of Transportation competition, sponsored by AASHTO, saw 2 photographs and 2 videos claim top prizes. Grand Prize (photography) went to Florida DoT Photographer Sally Dobson, while People's Choice Award was presented to photographer Karl Nielsen. In video competition, Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department won in Professional Production category, while California DoT (Caltrans) won In-House Production/Amateur/Novice category.
