EPMA launches new website.

After over 6 months of development, EPMA launched a new website which went live on June 10. Newly designed website will be underpinned by Joomla! system, enabling content and services to be added more freely than previous version. Website has carried over a great deal of existing content from previous version, and a range of new services for Members and Non-Members is under development along with a rolling program of updating Powder Metallurgy Case Studies through Spotlight in PM program. BIO addresses Supreme Court review of isolated DNA patents.

Jim Greenwood, President and CEO of BIO, issued statement on U.S. Supreme Court's decision regarding Myriad Genetics' patent claims on isolated DNA molecules, which summarily ruled that so-called cDNA remains eligible for patenting. Decision offers urgently needed certainty for research-driven companies that rely on cDNA patents for investment in innovation, but also represents troubling departure from decades of judicial and PTO precedent supporting patentability of DNA molecules. CAS and Thieme expand access to chemical reaction information.

Chemical Abstracts Service and Thieme Publishing Group, a leading publisher of scientific and medical journals and books, have announced that hundreds of thousands of experimental procedures for chemical reactions from two prestigious Thieme organic chemistry journals will soon be available. Experimental procedures from Thieme journals SYNLETT and SYNTHESIS from 1967 to present are being added to CAS databases for delivery in SciFinder®, the choice for chemistry research™. Read More

ATA opens registration for annual Management Conference.

Scheduled for Oct 19-22, ATA's annual Management Conference and Exhibition will begin with golf tournament to benefit ATA Insurance Task Force. First full day features "All Eyes on the Economy" luncheon and general session and opening of ATA Exhibit Hall, where attendees can review advances in truck safety, sustainability, and productivity. Day two leads off with Gov. Graves' annual "State of the Industry" address followed by presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and satirist Dave Barr. Read More

NREL Cooperative to make jet fuel from switchgrass.

June 14, 2013

As one of 4 biorefinery projects funded recently by Energy Department, NREL is partnering with Cobalt Technologies, U.S. Navy, and Show Me Energy Cooperative to demonstrate that jet fuel can be made economically and in large quantities from renewable biomass feedstock such as switchgrass. Results will help determine whether process is ready for commercial scale. If so, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of Defense are poised to help private firms build requisite biorefineries. Read More

ISPE Issues Survey on clinical trial materials experience.

Currently being conducted by ISPE, global survey on patient experiences is designed to obtain feedback on such areas as suitability of clinical trial packaging, label information and design, interacting with clinical trial technologies, and transportation/storage. Green Seal(TM) answers questions regarding GS-51 Standard.

Some institutional purchasers have contacted Green Seal regarding its recently published GS-51 "Standard for Laundry Care Products for Industrial and Institutional Use." GS-51 certification applies to prewash products, detergents, spot/stain removers, bleaches, and antimicrobial pesticide products. It does not apply to household laundry care products. Each product that earns GS-51 certification must deliver satisfactory performance and meet comparable benchmarks for that product category. Read More
