McCormick Place Development Plan to expand options at IMTS.

Development plans announced by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration include 1,100-room hotel, to be completed in 2016, plus 500-room hotel to be built afterward. Included in plans is arena for DePaul Blue Demons basketball team where conferences, meetings, and concerts will also be hosted. Totaling $1.1 billion, plans provide for greater choice of options for IMTS exhibitors and attendees. Redevelopment of Navy Pier and expansion of Children's Museum are also planned. Read More

BIO Praises Update of Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

BIO praised Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Representatives Jim Gerlach (R-PA) and Richard Neal (D-MA) on passage of HR 475, which updates existing excise tax to cover newest seasonal influenza vaccines. Jim Greenwood, BIO President and CEO, said those involved "should be applauded for their efforts to ensure that the newest flu vaccines will be covered by the VICP in time for flu season, ensuring patient access to the latest therapies." Judges from agriculture and construction sectors has been selected for 2013 AEM Hall of Fame awards, which will be presented at AEM Annual Conference on November 5, 2013 in Orlando, FL. AEM Hall of Fame honors individuals who have invented, managed, built, and led off-road equipment industry. May Equipment Finance Index shows business volume holding steady.

ELFA's Monthly Leasing and Finance Index for May indicates 21% increase in new business volume compared to May 2012, at $7.5 billion, unchanged from April 2013. Year to date, cumulative new business volume was up 11%. Index also showed receivables over 30 days declined to 1.6%, while charge-offs remained unchanged and credit approvals increased to 78.8%. FABTECH to be held in Chicago November 18-21, 2013.

Covering more than 550,000 net sq ft at McCormick Place in Chicago, FABTECH will feature exhibits such as live equipment demonstrations for visitors to see, touch, and compare products side-by-side. FABTECH educational conference will take place simultaneously, with expert speakers discussing topics in manufacturing. U.S. Team Takes Gold in 2013 International Rocketry Challenge.

Sponsored by Raytheon, U.S. team comprised of 3 students from Georgetown, TX 4-H rocketry club placed first in sixth annual International Rocketry Challenge at Le Bourget Airport in Paris. International Rocketry Challenge serves as culmination of 3 separate competitions held annually worldwide, each of which brings aims to inspire middle and high school students to become engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) by designing, building, and launching model rockets.
