NIST Researchers develop way to generate superluminal pulses.

May 7, 2012

Researchers at NIST have developed technique called 4-wave mixing, which reshapes parts of light pulses and advances them ahead of where they would have been had they been left to travel unaltered through vacuum. In experiment, pulses' peaks arrived 50 nanoseconds faster than light traveling through vacuum. New method could be used to improve timing of communications signals and to investigate propagation of quantum correlations. Read More
