EPA Renews Carbon Pollution Reduction Emphasis for P2 Week.

During Pollution Prevention (P2) Week (September 16–22), U.S. EPA encourages Americans to reduce carbon pollution by looking for Energy Star® label to find energy efficient electronics and appliances as well as using EPA's Green Vehicle Guide to choose more fuel efficient car. Additionally, P2 Week promotes water conservation, selection of safer products via EPA Design for the Environment (DfE) Safer Product Label, and proper use of pesticides. Read More

ASTM Roofing Committee recognizes Thomas L. Smith.

Thomas L. Smith, president of TLSmith Consulting Inc. in Rockton, IL, has received Carl G. Cash Award from ASTM International Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing. Award recognizes outstanding contributions to building envelope technology through research conducted in either laboratory or field. A member of ASTM International since 1988, Smith serves on multiple D08 subcommittees and also works on Committee C17 on Fiber-Reinforced Cement Products. Read More

ASTM International Committee F13 on Pedestrian/Walkway Safety and Footwear has honored William Ells, VP of sales at Vibram USA, Concord, MA, with Award of Merit. Committee F13 recognized Ells for his dedicated service and commitment to development of safety standards for footwear. A member of ASTM International since 1998, Ells played a large part in development of ASTM F2913, which addresses slip resistance of personal protective footwear used in wide variety of industries. NEMA Publishes Standard on low-voltage cartridge fuses.

Covering 8 classes of low-voltage cartridge fuses (G, H, J, K, L, R, T, and CC), NEMA FU 1-2012 Low Voltage Cartridge examines fuses of current-responsive element inside fuse body with contacts on both ends. These fuses are rated 600 V or less, alternating current (AC), and direct current (DC). Updates include direct current tests for photovoltaic fuses. Read More

SPE to hold 5th European Thermoforming Parts Competition.

Scheduled for April 3–4, 2014, European Thermoforming Parts Competition will judge participants on originality, creativity, mold complexity, and technical ability. Entries with thick gauge parts will be possible in Vehicle/Automotive, Industrial, Point of Purchase/Displays, Technical Applications and Sanitary categories, while thin gauge parts will be judged in categories of Food Applications, Medical Applications, Electronical Applications, and General Packaging. Boeing completes Mission Control Center interface test.

For first time, Mission Control Center at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston has tested communications with commercial, crew-capable spacecraft, as The Boeing Company conducted an interface test between MCC and software planned for company's CST-100 spacecraft. Boeing has partnered with NASA to develop a fully integrated crew transportation system, with its CST-100 spacecraft and United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, in partnership with NASA's Commercial Crew Program. World PCB Market grew 1.7% in 2012.

According to IPC's World PCB Production Report for Year 2012, world market for PCBs reached nearly $60 billion in 2012, with 1.7% real growth over 2011. Report shows Asia with 90% of world PCB production. China’s share of world production is now 42.8% and Japan is now distant second with 16%. South Korea had a great year in 2012, surpassing Taiwan and moving into third place, while United States held onto fifth place rank with just under 5% share. Read More
