Proficiency Testing Program addresses diesel exhaust fluid.

ASTM's Diesel Exhaust Fluid Proficiency Testing Program provides laboratories with statistical quality assurance tool, enabling them to compare, improve, and maintain high level of performance in use of ISO methods with other laboratories worldwide. Impurities in DEF can cause selective catalytic reduction technology, which is part of diesel engine’s powertrain configuration, to fail. As a result, it is both beneficial and important to maintain DEF quality standards and testing. Read More

Inter-Agency Collaboration supports weatherization workforce.

Collaboration between Energy Department, its National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and home energy performance industry seeks to support weatherization workforce with consistent on-the-job tools, accredited training programs, and credentials that lead to better-defined career paths. Along with Standard Work Specifications (SWS) for weatherization processionals, NREL developed publicly available API for companies to integrate within tools they develop for employees. Read More

Public Listening Sessions address carbon pollution reduction.

EPA will hold 11 public listening sessions across the country to solicit ideas and input from the public and stakeholders about the best Clean Air Act approaches to reducing carbon pollution from existing power plants. Feedback from sessions will play an important role in helping EPA develop smart, cost-effective guidelines that reflect the latest and best information available. EPA to restrict import of harmful carpet chemicals. .

October 8, 2013

U.S. EPA is finalizing rule that will allow agency to restrict import of potentially harmful perfluorinated chemicals that could be used in carpets. Regulation will require companies to report to EPA all new uses, including in domestic and imported products, of these chemicals once used for soil and stain resistance in carpets. These chemicals have been shown to persist in the environment and bioaccumulate in humans and animals, representing potential threat to health of Americans. Read More

Revised Forecast reflects stalled growth.

August 2013 findings from IPC's monthly North American PCB Statistical Program includes revised 2013 forecast of nearly flat sales growth for 2013. Total North American PCB shipments decreased 1.6% from August 2012, and bookings decreased 9.1%. Year to date, PCB industry shipments were below 2012 at -3.9%, and bookings were down 1.0%. Compared to July, PCB shipments were up 5.3% while bookings were down 8.1%. Shipments exceeded bookings, and PCB book-to-bill ratio dropped to parity at 1.00. Read More
